PEPELICIOUS @ DESA SRI HARTAMAS
Looking for some
exciting crossover in the culinary art? Then Pepelicious might be one place you
would like to check out for their toothsome Asian-Westerrn fusions like, have
you think of enjoying your favourite Italian risotto dished up the local iconic
delights- nasi lemak served in claypot? Read on! (=
It was a surprisingly
smooth journey on that Friday evening as we cruised swiftly from KL area
towards the usually traffic jam-prone area of Hartamas especially on a Friday
evening. Well, it’s the eve of the weekend where most, if not all, the white
collars folks are looking forward weekly, no? Me not spared either, hehe.
And so, we arrived to
a cozy hideout that was warmly lighted lit up to create a soothing yet relaxing
ambiance to patrons who dine in after a long day.
Guests who come in
bigger group of 10pax and up to 30 people, can choose to enjoy their privacy at
the upper floor which houses an alluring pink couch, a pool table for a game or
two and various whatnots adorning the
vintage space. Private occasion can be catered here at no extra cost. Sounds
ideally good for throwing a party yea?
Let’s not get too
carried away with the many drawing auras of the enclave and dive on!
NACHOS PARMI
My
all-time fave- nachos!
The
homemade dipping of mixed cut capsicums and mushrooms in parmigiana sauce, goes
really well with the crispy nachos. A good alternative compared to the usual
salsa and guacamole relish.
GRILLED CHICKEN MISO SALAD
A good
started to get the tummy warms up!
Healthy
plate of crisp greens consisting of arugula, red coral, romaine lettuce, onion
rings and cherry tomato, tastefully drizzled with house special miso sauce
ebfore topped off with a wobbly poached egg. I particularly fascinate by its
tangy sauce for if I have not been told, I wouldn’t know it is of miso based
for I don’t taste salty at all, but appetizing zest. Yum!
FUNGO MUMBO
Gone
are the days where the craze for salted egg is only associated with croissants,
but here you get much more satiated than that. How does a salted egg pizza base
sound? (=
Using
naan bread as the healthy base, before sprinkled with juicy mixed mushrooms sautéed
in light creamy sauce infused with salted egg, then balanced with some juicy
capsicums. Best eaten while it’s hot otherwise the aroma of salted egg would
diminish as it wafts through the air.
SPICY HOT CHIXX!!
A
spicy version of the previous bake. Indeed challengingly mixed with chillies,
minced chicken tossed in spicy relish and laid on a bed of creamed naan base.
Still, it’s pretty spicy to me, hehe, while the rest with stronger tolerance of
SHU, are reveling in it delightfully.
YUMMYLICIOUS CHICKEN
If to
choose, I would deem this as the highlight of that evening of all the food we
sampled. The poultry is alluringly and beautifully served with no qualms. However,
the thoroughly well-marinated meat is already a stellar on its own even without
the spicy peach salsa dressing. Having said that, I still enjoy the potato
salad and moreish peach salsa sauce very much, it is just that the tender
chicken thigh is so tastily done that it needs no further accompaniment that it
can carry itself out well independently.
PEPE FISH
Another
awesome dish dished up!
Juicy fillet
of perch nicely pan seared before doused with temptingly creamy aromatic fusion
sauce, while accompanied with potato and seasonal vegetables.
SEAFOOD CURRY SPAGHETTI
Once
glance, two bites instantly reminds me of the familiar dry version of curry wan
tan mee. Pepelicious is very generous with their homemade curry laksa sauce that each strand of noodles is nicely
coated evenly. The inviting plate of pasta is then served with assorted seafood
like squids, prawns, and fish slices before finished it off with a melted
cheddar slice.
Now
here it comes the surprise!
NASI LEMAK GONE ITALIAN!
Yea,
you heard it right and ain’t gone crazy! Hehe...............
I have
always been an ardent fan of risotto especially the Funghi Risotto that I had at Michelangelo’s,
the taste still remain vividly till today.
But right now, let’s switch to loca fave mode-
nasi lemak style!
The
risotto rice nasi lemak was nicely cooked till decent starchiness that might
appear bit sticky with the creamy spiced coconut gravy, served with the prerequisite
ikan bilis sambal (anchovies chili paste), slices of succulent deviled beef
slices, hardboiled egg and complemented perfectly with the crunchy silver anchovies!
Soon,
it’s dessert time to wrap up the night on a sweet note.
BAILEY'S PARFAIT
Luscious
alcohol-infused parfait with bailey's, chocolate sauce with intermittent layers
of oreo biscuits crumbles. Make sure each scoop is till the bottom of the glass
so to ensure the best enjoyment!
SPECIAL PEPELICIOUS CHURROS
Chewy
churros made with house special recipe and accompanied with a scoop of vanilla
ice cream and chocolate sauce as the side.
MOLTEN LAVA CHOCOLATE
A tricky yet
moreish nosh of sweet indulgence that requires the right skill and timing in
baking it. And in this case, Pepelicious has demonstrated it very well with
this outcome- slightly crisp on the outside but remaining gooey and soft in the
middle where the molten chocolate lava liberally flows out once forked in.
It was a fantastic
feast no doubt, but like everyone else, we’re also curious as to what is meant
by Pepelicious. Michelle, the founder of this Italian-vibed establishments told
us that the yummy idea actually came from the earnest passion in culinary as in
serving up delicious food with the beauty of peppers (Pepper is 'Pepe' in Italian),
hence Pepelicious!
And basement
parking is very much conveniently available here, a relief from the busy street
in the vicinity that leads to misery when trying to find parking.
Some might find
the menu is a tad simple here, but hey, that’s the ultimate intention for more
often than not, those massive menu listings does get you haywire and spoilt for
choices, which at the end of the day, you can’t decide which tasty grubs to go,
no? So, this would definitely make your life easier when it comes to food
decision over a scrumptious selection of brilliantly fused recipes, East and
West! Do remember to drop by soon!
