ALBANY FARMERS MARKET @ PERTH, WA

After spending a restful night at Albany YHA, upon checking out before shifting to another local stay, we headed over to the local popular weekly market place of Albany Farmers Market, which is only opened on every Saturday from 8am to 12pm. Thank God we arrived in Albany at the right time (=

We do not want to miss it as this is one of the best ways for us to immerse culturally and widening our horizon about this beautiful and serene town. It’s very near to Albany YHA at Duke Street, just about some 10 minutes’ walk away, or you could choose to drive over too- it’s just slightly behind Albany Uniting Church at Collie Street.

At the Albany Farmers Market it is the farmers themselves who sell their produce. They delight in passing on the provenance of their product, together with helpful tips and recipes. It creates an opportunity for customers to purchase fresh, local seasonal produce direct from the producer, whilst educating consumers about how their food is grown and processed.

Many locals now rely on the markets for their major weekly shop because of the comprehensive range and sustained quality of produce, enjoying the wonderful interaction with the producers, whilst at the same time enjoying the camaraderie and delight of catching up with old friends!

Visitors enjoy an opportunity to see, sample and buy produce that is truly local.

Piacun Honey (AUD 4.50- Medium | AUD 7.50- Large)
The ranges of floral sources are mallee, eucalyptus and yate in the east, and jarrah, marri, karri and taylorina, closer to Albany. All the honey they market is sourced entirely from their own production. Their honey is not blended and is handled as little as possible. What the bees put in the hives is what ends up in the jar!

The selection was enormous from fruit, vegetable, Organic Beef and Lamb; Free Range Pork, Chicken, Bacon, Ham, Honey, Breads, Cow & Goat Yoghurt, Soft Cow & Goat Cheese, Sheep Yoghurt and cheese, Mussels, Milk, Cream, Ice-creams, Extra Virgin Olive Oils, Eggs, Nuts, Jams, Preserves, Plants and Fresh Flowers and many more!

As we could only check in Airbnb at Spencer Park in the late afternoon, so we can’t buy any dairy products to keep in the car since morning for they would easily spoilt when kept in longer hours under the hot sun. Otherwise, I really wanted to buy their fresh milk and cheese and yoghurt and the list definitely goes on for this dairy food lover, haha.

Anyway, we managed to fix the caffeine craving at this motherly coffee place by Beck and Call’s beans on wheels.

Long Black (AUD 4)
Handmade Chai (AUD 4)

Love the colourful and floral cup, really!

Let’s adjourn for now as we would be heading to another breathtaking scenic spot- thanks to the lady who was one of the farmers selling her produce there, who recommended us to go over to Windmill as it was exceptionally good day that Saturday, so not to waste. Not knowing what’s awaiting us nor so special about the place initially as it wasn’t in our planed itinerary, we just heed the suggestion for what may go wrong with when local know the best? And we were glad to have such Samaritan who directed us to the beautiful place, so stay tuned and would be sharing it soon.

Meanwhile, some scenic snaps while cruising enroute to Spencer Park slightly uphill!

Wanted to visit this cafe initially, but too bad, they close earlier than usual as the food has sold out :(

Alright then, Let's just Keep It Simple!

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ℒℴѵ
