HARUMI 23 MODERN JAPANESE RESTAURANT @ PLAZA ARKADIA

Zen and floral vibes gently beckoning as you walked into this pinky restaurant of Harumi 23.
This quaint establishment specializes in modern Japanese cuisine and is currently located at the chic piazza of Plaza Arkadia which is just further up from Desa Park City.
I have always adored this place for its subtly appealing and modernistic, colonial architectural design that lend some olde feel to it- almost similar to what I stumbled upon in Melaka during one of my frequent food tripping stint, but this is much nearer in KL (=

Rather than merely limiting to only pure Japanese food, Harumi 23 yearns to provide more excitement as well as choices for its diverse patrons to choose from- especially the discernably growing crowds nowadays who often wish for more interesting twist in their chuck instead of only the usual traditional sushi, sashimi, don, yakitori and green tea.
We loved the halcyon and warm ambiance that this space exuded- with occasional aureate hue from the golden leaves as part of its interior embellishments.
So while we were waiting for the mains to be up and running from the kitchen, we were first served with a rather unique soup that was enjoyed in a teapot way. However, don’t be fooled by its execution as it may easily trick you (at least to me) into thinking if it was sake to start off the fête, hehe...
Harumi Dobin Mushi (MYR 18)
A dainty moreish pot of salubrious soup that had been boiled in superior clear dashi broth, together with prawn, chicken and maitake mushroom. It was tad plain but pristine with subtle sweetness to it. You have the option to squeeze some lime juice into it to spice it up further- personally, I enjoy as it was.
Up next was one of the most celebrated staples in Japan- tamago!
Mentai Tamago (MYR 12).
Japanese style rolled omelette served atop with flamed cod roe mayo. Both are my favourite- what else could I ask more?

Crispy Sushi Roll (MYR 30)
It’s one of Harumi 23 signature where this sushi is alluringly served with fresh salmon, asparagus and ebiko, enwrapped within thin layer of light golden crispy crumbs.
This creation seems interesting and palatably inventive, as I enjoyed the crispy layer on the outside and it didn’t feel oily.
Kushiyaki for some fix of Izakaya nosh.
Butakushi (MYR 6 / stick)
Charcoal grilled sakura pork belly with salt or yakitori sauce- but I usually prefer to go it ‘shio’ way to really relish in the food freshness and original sweetness.
What’s Japanese dining if without Sashimi?

Chef’s Selection Sashimi Moriawase (MYR186)
A beautifully elaborated bowl of fresh seafood including Nama Hotate, Amaebi, Ikura and 3 to 4 kinds of air-flown Sashimi such as Maguro, Salmon and Salmon Belly.

For a taste of Yakimono, we had the cheesy grilled of fresh king prawn.
Mentai King Prawn (MYR 32)
King prawn with half broiled cod roe for that swift hint of smokiness.

Tempura Moriawase (MYR 20)
Assorted prawns and vegetables served with savoury dipping sauce.
Shoyu Butter Scallop Spaghetti (MYR 38)
For any butter lover, you would delight in this pasta naturally- what’s more with juicy and sweet scallop along? Bliss!
Shibuya Dessert Toast
Chocolate Rocher Toast (MYR 19.9)
Matcha Kakigori (MYR 25.90)

Hand Drip Coffee (MYR 9.90)
Using Artisan Roasters’ single origin beans from Brazil
All in all, it was a lovely dining place over splendid Japanese spreads, perfect to be enjoyed with family and friends. Or even for special occasion like birthday celebration where you could actually request for a private room (subject to availability)- so it’s best to make prior reservation.
Hence, drop by soon for a wonderful feast of modern Japanese gastronomy and do try out the mouthwatering Crispy Sushi Roll- it was my personal favourite (=
