China House @ Beach Street, Penang

The wave of boutique café has not only swept over the metropolitan of KL, but has also invaded into the radars of urbanites residing in the Pearl of Orient. China House (which most of the time, I tend to accidentally enunciate it as White House-US, lol), is one of the several brands that has sprung up lately, occupying a three-linked compound, at the heritage-rich locale of Beach Street.

More known for its versatile home-baked cakes series that claims to serve some of the best bakeries in town, the café has now widened up its menu which offers various savory fusions of Chinese, Italian and Japanese, catering from breakfast, brunch to dinner folks. At one glance, first-timer would have mistaken this for a house of bakery rather that a coffee place that is said to serve over 30 types of cakes daily, all made at the premises. Yeah, you might be spoil with choices definitely by merely looking at the majestic spread of Victorian-styled bakeries.

This traditionally-infused vibes consists of a colonial enclosure that spans from three different buildings which are linked up by an open air courtyard, that are then modeled into 14 spaces comprising of cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries, live music and bakery, all on a lane way concept, where one path stretches from Beach Street to Victoria Street. Ah ha, now that’s what my curiosity has awakened up to architecturally.

Since we are dropping early supper time, we don't get to wander around very much actually as some of the sections are closed. Anyhow, am still glad to have a quick run through of the available spaces with the first blueish room being something right up my alley chromatically.

Cozy and eclectic hues seem to be much more appreciated by our Eurasian counterparts it seems. This very Australian style nook delights wine enthusiasts with their decent array of house-poured wines as well as cocktails.

Oh, before that the area are preceded by Kopi C and Beach Street Bakery.

Palates of coffee lovers are tickled by weekly roasted coffee beans using Nylon Rosters from El Primero Blend and Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza single origin.

Subsequently complemented by Beach Street Bakery, where you could get fluffy muffins, biscuits, bread, pies (sweet and savoury) , cakes and ice cream, all made inhouse.

Coming up next would be the open-space area; Under the Mango Trees, that caters for poolside dining, adorned with bulbs and red knickknackery around the trees. Somehow or rather reminds me of those wishing trees in Hong Kong, hehe.

Coincidentally, i fit in the theme too, flloral RED!  (✿◠‿◠)

And last but not least, this should be the best place for sensuous nightingales to unwind with great live music over the weekend, The Canteen.

Alright, guess Lumix has been sufficiently fed with the brief introduction of this unparalleled ID, now it’s time to fill up our tummy………. ^_6

Tiramisu (MYR 12)
One of the best sellers over here, with the base sponge being soaked with alcohol; but do not put high expectation on the booze flavor part :) Apart from that, the cake is good and moist, creamy at the same time with the engaging chocolate bites. Indeed something different from the usual Italian dessert which is much denser in milky cream, cocoa powder and coffee liqueur.

P/S: Finally get a taste of it, thanks for the recommendation, Coffee Prince! Err nope, Tiramisu Prince to be exact! xoxo......... ^_^

Red Wine Pear Cake (MYR 12)
As you might have guessed it, I pick this pastry out of the compelling ingredient namesake.
You get to enjoy a spongy, sweet and wettish texture, however, similarly wine aroma is not that apparent as well.

Cranberry Lemon Juice (MYR 9)
Chilling and throat-soothing, according to the Tiramisu’s Prince, whose throat apparently has been quite uneasy that night, but luckily, gets mellowed over the lemony zest phew! Obviously another foodie in disguise……………. (=

Caffe Latte (MYR 11)
Not forgetting to complement the night of dessert indulgence with a smooth cup of Caffe Latte;  freshly brewed from the gorgeous La Cimbali and daintily crafted with rosette art.

A night of laughter shared over a table of great companions of camaraderie!
C’est la vie………..
