LWIN LEE | Wang Zi Mix Rice 什饭王子 @ USJ Taipan
Residents staying nearby USJ Taipan would be more than
delighted to have Wang Zi Mix Rice,
a.k.a Prince of Mixed Rice at their
neighbourhood. As its name might have depicted, this evolutionized concept of
the mundane mixed rice stalls provides a much cozier environment with myriads
of dishes under one roof, and of course, get ready to be spoilt for choices as
well.
Taking a spot at one of the busiest street of USJ
Taipan opposite Starbucks, serves as a strategic location to reach out to busy workers
as well as housemakers who are often running around the clock. Over here, not only the varieties of
home-styled dishes are deliciously served, diners get to quench their thirst with water or
Chinese tea, that are provided complimentarily, alongside a hearty bowl of
hot-warming soup of the day as well, to complete the much-needed nourishing
hydration especially during such sultry weather. Otherwise, diners could opt
for Soya Bean, Chrysanthemum Tea or Winter Melon Tea at just MYR 1! That’s
definitely a steal to most of us ( =
On average, 60 to 70 dishes are served and replenished
every day, depends on the crowds and demands, all within the comfort of an airy
environment with cooling fans that ensure the area is well-ventilated. Kitchen
are managed by 3 chefs, opened as early as 9am daily to dish up the array of
food to cater for lunch folks, and continue stirring up several more dishes at
about 4pm for dinner patrons before calling it a day about 9pm, on a daily
basis. Therefore, guests are rest assured of the freshness of the food,
enjoying them at a reasonable price, ranging averagely from MYR 5 – MYR 7,
depending on the portion that you take.
Amongst the freshly cooked and piping hot dishes that we
are able to try and touted as best sellers are………
Petai Beans Cooked with Minced Meat in Belacan
~ Savoury and adequately spiced, not too pungent but
appetizing. Great to go with a plate of white rice.
Marmite Chicken
~ Brings back the sweet childhood memories of enjoying
a homy bowl of Marmite porridge, yum!
Cantonese Style Sweet And Sour Pork (Gu Lou Yuk)
~ Love its simplicity and light sapidity.
Sweet N Sour Ribs (Pai Kuat Wong)
~ Tender lean pork meat for health-conscious folks who
have sudden carnivorous craving.
Fried Pork Meat (Cha Yuk)
~ Seriously beckoning to those pork lovers who enjoy
the more luscious part of pork meat; fats! They are deep fried, resulting on
the crispy exterior.
Kung Po Fried Clams
~ Full of spice and flavourful!
Stir-fried Pumpkin
~ These golden slices are really sweet and awesomely
nutritious!
Steamed Bean Curd with Century Egg and Salted Egg
Tom Yam Chicken Cutlet
House Special Salad
Homestyle Omelette
Fried Long Beans and Lady’s Fingers in Belacan
~ Love the saporous kick of the gravy used amidst very
mild spiciness.
………….and the list is not exhaustive for these ‘few’ selections
are just the tip of an iceberg!
Overall, Wang
Zi Mix Rice 什饭王子 serves up a great, decent
and soporific homey dishes, suitable for all walks of life. I like the idea
that most of the dishes are originally cooked, served fresh, without much
dependence on any artificial flavor enhancers, and is slightly on the soupy
side, which I personally think it’s really good and go easy on the rice, much
more if you’re a huge fan of congee :)
To try it out for yourself whether your taste bud
would be able to abstain from the appealing selection on country-styled mixed
dishes, head over here one of these days.
P/s: On a separate note, parking could be dreadful task especially
during peak hours, so if time flexibility is under your call, then perhaps it’s
better to drop by in between the rush for those alluring grubs ( =
