LWIN LEE | MINI STEAMBOAT POT @ TWO PESOS

Gone are the days where steamboat dining has to be quite a hassle one, with a prerequisite group of diners, or else, one would be striving hard to finish the whole pot by him or herself. Now, the discerning folks of KL are in luck as Two Pesos, has brought in the 5th generation of Taiwanese mini steamboat, to tantalize the taste buds of yours conveniently, without having to fly all the way to Taipei, but yet, still get to enjoy the taste of its uniqueness from using the various types of hot pot that are not commonly seen elsewhere.

These pots work wonderfully when it comes to cookery, with some are made of ceramic pot or also known as buckpot, cast iron and cast brass. Each is specialized in certain recipes, delivering the best soup with the most suitable pot. Therefore, get ready to have your ubiquitous steamboat experience elevated to the next level and be adventurous to try all of them.

Having just operated less than a month, 25th August 2014 to be exact, Two Pesos is already enjoying a brisk business, where you would be seeing throng of customers queuing up at the restaurant especially during dinner time. Well, in fact, Two Pesos aims to change the orthodox mindset of many foodies in which this soupy fare could actually be well relished anytime and not bounded by number of pax. Guest could just bask in during lunch hour and drop an order or take away if you are at the go, be it in a group or even individually.

Bill Lim, the restaurant manager is so passionate about healthy eating, that we can easily relate  to during his insightful sharing.

Its menu inculcates environmental friendliness, where crayon-like pencil is used to indicate your order and could be erased when new customers come. Basically, once the customer drop by at the main entrance, remember to pick up a menu on your left  and head to your preferred tables before deciding on your steamboat pot by choosing your soup first, followed by meat and sides choices. It’s pretty easy and simple, and before you realize, your treasure pot is already being served efficiently on your table.

The food review session kicked off with the parade of several signature soup bases by Two Pesos.

There are sauces to be mix-and-match, according to your personal preference. As for me, it’s good enough to have all this blended in together for a unique tang!

Among the special dipping would be the Sha Cha Sauce (brownish at the bottom right), which is more famous in Taiwan and carries with it a enticing palate albeit rather mild flavor at first gustatory encounter.

It’s made of specialty soybean relish from Taiwan with savory and slightly spicy taste, which usually makes an ideal dipping choice for hot pot meals. Same goes for the Bean Paste (diagonally left above sha cha sauce) that comes with savory sweetness as well.

TWO PESOS STONE POT (MYR 13.50)
There is a reason why it is deemed as the signature pot over here. Slices of tender pork are being sautéed beforehand together with sesame, scallions, sesame oil and garlic till partially cooked.  Soup base is then added to it and bring it to boil in order to cook the assorted steamboat ingredients.

Seemingly simple but tastefully captivating with its clear yet very flavorful soup. Highly recommended.

JAPANESE SUKIYAKI POT (MYR 14)
This would appeal to foodie who usually shun away from stronger taste of Japanese Sukiyaki. This brownish concoction is rather modestly prepared but yet still saporous without the overpowering sweetness of the Japanese sauce.

Extra soup base- with the taste of bonito fish stock, could be added in between to cook the myriad of veges thoroughly, including bean sprout, cabbages, radish and et cetera.

MILKY SEAFOOD POT (MYR 14)
Using cooking cream from Germany together with inhouse secret recipe, this milky broth appears much more inviting, especially towards the end of the boiling process of the steamboat ingredients. At this juncture, simply by adding in the vermicelli enables you to truly enjoy the richness of the meal for this time, the entire soup gist is being absorbed by the vermicelli perfectly! Not exactly like the taste of our common fish head noodle but equally tasty.

BASHU SPICY POT (MYR 14)
Authentic Sichuan dishes with a toned done version on the level of spiciness to suit the local palate. It’s very sapid, comes with some spiced piquancy that helps livened up the overall experience with the addition on peppercorn, as the savory soup permeates into each steamboat ingredients. So nice that would finish the whole pot of soup before you realize it.

TAJINE SEAFOOD POT (MYR 16)

The Tajine pot has the ability to maintain heat after cooking, preventing the loss of original aroma and taste of soup

Certainly an exceptional way of enjoying steamboat thus far. Using this Moroccan earthenware, it helps locking the steam during cooking and capturing all the oceanic essence in the 7-8 minutes of boiling. Those who love the pure sweetness of seafood would definitely enjoy it.

As for vegans, they could relish in this equally awesome golden pot too.

To round up the educational-cum-fête steamboat session, we clear our throat with the refreshing drinks by Two Pesos.

PASSIONFRUIT ICE (MYR 2.50)

KOCHABI WINTER MELON TEA (MYR 2.50)

Alright by now, some of you might be wondering why a Taiwanese restaurateur would have embraced the name of Philippine's currency right? The story behind is rather interesting and captivating with a gentle injection of romance. Basically, the idea of Two Pesos is born when two lovely souls from Taiwan are brought together unexpectedly during a trip to Boracay Island, in which the idea of creating a hearty yet affordable steamboat ensues later when the love for searching and creating the best steamboat blossoms. News spread fast and now the restaurant has spanned over nearly 50 outlets in Taipei with the first foray in Malaysia last month.

Its strategic location at the already food-inundated area of SS2 makes it quite a noticeable place especially with its vibrant orangey theme. It’s just beside SS2 Starbucks Coffee. So if you are looking for a good, delicious and scrumptious steamboat at an affordable price, do hear over here one of these days to try it out for yourselves at this healthfully conceptualized modern steamboat moment.

By the way, these steamboats are available for take away order too. Look at the cutesy packaging (=

Just like its tagline, "Everyday is a good day for hot pot"!
