LWIN LEE | MARUHI SAKABA YAKITORI @ PLAZA FABER, TAMAN DESA
Finally set foot at its another widely-told endeavour under the same wing
of enterprising Seiji
Fujimoto’s Sanuki Udon and Lao Jiulou.
Apparently Maruhi Sakaba has been operating in this neighbourhood
for quite some time now, if not because of the food connoisseur buddy, this
place would still remain anonymously from my radar. So drop by for a quick
dinner while waiting our homemade cheesecake to be thoroughly baked in the
kitchen. Merci beaucoup monsieur! (=.
This eatery serves up to a wide array of grilled skewered meats and
vegetables, prepared and marinated the Japanese way by the husky Chef Norio Koike. He is always that busy
and passionately engrossed in the kitchen but still find some time to say Hi to
his tomodachi, my cheesecake mentor, ahem! (=
The restaurant is also famous for its grill-to-order chicken wing
yakitori. This will definitely ensure the freshness of the food served and come
deliciously hot to your table. I also learnt that the chicken meat here is sourced
from a quality supplier for a premium grade, similar to the one at UdonYa-San. Oh by the way, do check out this awesome cafe too, for its affordably
priced hearty bowl of toothsome udon.
Pickled radish with tangy relish as appetizer.
Pickled radish with tangy relish as appetizer.
Worry not of dirtying your hands as there would be a yakitori master to
help patrons with the grilling .
Price ranges for each stick ranges from MYR 4 to MYR 5.
CHICKEN
KUSHI AND PORK KUSHI
CHICKEN
WING
The grilled chicken wings are crispy on the skin and comes flavourful with pleasant brininess that they need no sauce to accompany them.
PORK
LIVER and PORK TONGUE
These are gonna be the most exotic food I had by far
in my food adventure. Am still learning to appreciate this acquired taste after
all, hehe.
PORK
BELLY (BUTABARA)
Savouring this delicacy instantly relives back the
memory when I had the tantalizing samgyeopsal
in Busan last October. Just that in this case, the meat is smokier and less
caramelized compared to the Korean version, perhaps due to the barbeque
process. Nonetheless, sumptuously executed!
MOTSU
NIKOMI
A nourishing
stew of pork offal which initially I thought wouldn’t enjoy much till I finally
got pestered into trying it, and I must say they turn out quite well in fact (=
It’s quite peppery, or rather very
strong with black pepper taste, thus it’s able to get rid of any unwanted smell
from the pork innard. Quite chewy though……
Just one note when dining here, there is no air conditioner around as the
environment is kept simple with casual atmosphere, so to reflect the original
culture back in the Land of the Rising Sun. Have a good try anyhow folks!
Cheers and CarpeDiem!
