LWIN LEE | KOREAN WANG BBQ RESTAURANT @ SS2, PETALING JAYA

안녕하세요 !!!

Now folks of Klang Valley has more reason to visit SS2 more often. Why?
Definitely not only because of the much said tasty hawker food or rather than squeezing with the crowds at those mushrooming café nowadays, perhaps you wanna slow down your pace and widen your radar in search for some noteworthy Korean cuisine!

It’s not an everyday scene at the locality of SS2 that you would see a quaint restaurant (not those brands with mega franchises) serving up authentic and homey Korean fare at a truly affordable price! And that’s what you could anticipate under the good hands of experienced Chef Sung, who hails all the way from Korean, bringing his 10 years of culinary heritage to share with our fellow Malaysian at Korean Wang BBQ Retaurant.

잘 먹었습니다, 감사합니다!

Not quite an amiable figure at first glance due to his cool appearance, but you are bound to have that perception changed once you get to know him better. Chef Sung is actually a very genial and passionate person who pays attention to little details of his cooking and take pride in serving the best and most authentic Korean cuisine to amuse the taste bud of his diners.

Embark with a frills-free and simplistic interior, the restaurant welcomes you to a spacious environment and comfortable vibes that is well-equipped with advanced smoke suction to ensure every guest a convenient, smoke-free yet enjoyable yummy barbeque moment.

As the usual Korean culinary rite has it, we were first served with an array of delicious banchan, with kimchi is a must, along with some other interesting sides such as the gamja jorim, glazed potato cubes in soy sauce that come appealingly goodish with its sweetness. Me for one, enjoy them dearly!

Soon, plates after plates of promising main entrees gracefully made their appearances on our table which is munificently served. Honestly speaking, the portion offered here is really value for money as they are comparatively more wonderfully bountiful than other Korean enterprises with no compromise on the food quality and taste. Folks who frequent Korean cuisine often would definitely see eye to eye with me on this generous point as testified by the luscious photographed as shared. You give it a try and be the judge.

So are you ready to get droolin’ guys? (=
 먹겠습니다!!

SAMGYEOPSAL (MYR 19)

Tenderly grilled pork belly is heard excitedly dancing in tandem with the heated sizzling pan. This type of Koren grilled meat is often served with ssamjang or gireumjang sauce.

MOKSAL (MYR 19)
Slabs of fresh and nicely-marbled pinkish meat awaiting you for a springier texture and much leaner. Hence it appeals to those who love less fatty layers and foodie who are watching weight currently.

CHICKEN BBQ (MYR 19)
Grilled marinated chicken.

CHEESY CHICKEN 250g (MYR 25)
Juicy and tender chicken meats smokily cooked in the pan before further made scrumptiously by adding in the melted cheese, oh my god, it’s just so awesomely gratifying! The cheese is melted just nice and adequately smothered through the pieces of chicken cubes.

CHEESY BBQ PORK RIBS 600g (MYR 40)
Pork ribs marinated and cooked in Korean spicy sauce and topped with cheese munificently. For those who fancy pork meat, this is the cheesy version from the usually grilled one. Equally heavenly!

KIMCHI JIGAE (MYR 10)
Expect some appetizing piquantness from the kimchi and it’s relatively less spicy that other restaurant. Daebak!

SUNDUBU JIGAE (MYR 10)
Spicy soft tofu stewed in a very rich and sweet broth of seafood, thumbs up! Soups are ideally paired with a bowl of hot rice and you’re already good to go!

DWAEJI GALBI (MYR 22)

Succulent pork rib marinated in special soy sauce; ganjang-based traditionally, giving out a zesty savory layer on the exterior.

TTEOKBOKKI (MYR 10)
Another dish from Chef Sung that nonstop surprising me is this plate of red-hot Korean rice cake cooked toothsomely in gochujang sauce. As fiery as it may look, it’s not that lip-burning but much more tangier in texture giving a pleasant nuance overall. Am not a usual fan of this snack unless it’s like grilled but this one is really satisfying. I believe the Chef must have ‘seasoned’ it very well with his years of experience.

Chef Sung was truly hospitable where he had later gone into the kitchen and return with 2 more additional Korean traditional delicacies.

GYERANMARI
Typically known as egg roll or it could be at times, served as steamed egg too.

GAMJA JEON
Not quite a common dish I would see at other Korean food operators as compared to haemul or kimchi pajeon. This version of Korean potato pancake takes a twist with some finely grated potato that is pan-fried till lightly golden brown. I don’t mind if it’s slightly more browned for that engaging crispiness on the exterior though, hehe.

This beautifully pan-fried potato pancake is then served with a dipping sauce called choganjang, made of soy sauce and vinegar.

And don’t forget to check out the marvelous deal available for Family Set. Easily could fit up to 5 pax at a really good steal!

Overall, I really enjoy all the dishes served especially the hot soups, tteokbokki, grilled moksal and also the cheesy plate of chicken teppan! All have been excellently executed for that memorable dining experience and am already looking forward for another return for Chef Sung’s palatable rendition again.

식사를 아주 맛있게 먹었습니다!

감사합니다 !!
