Joining the fairly new community of Cheras C180 since last Dec is none other than Imai-Ya, a Japanese casual restaurant that is teamed up with a group of enthusiastic and passionate crews who aims to serve up the best and delicious Japanese food of both original and classic recipes.

Apart from serving sushi and sashimi, Imai-Ya also offer a great variety of Yakiniku, which is grilled over charcoals flame to preserve the authenticity.

The kitchen is spearheaded by Chef Yeok who manages and ensuring everything is in accordance to stringent procedure to ensure optimum food quality is delivered to guests. Only the freshest ingredients are used at Imai-Ya and it adheres to the strict policy of no overnight food produce is stored but would be discarded should it not entirely utilized daily. Hence, diners are rest assured that the food served are of top notch and with attentive, friendly service.

VIP rooms are available too. Love the serene vibes as well as the Zen ambiance with florals wall painting. Warm and comfortable.

A group of frequent customers of Japanese native were seen enjoying camaraderie of each other over the delicious repast

Upper floor is available too if you prefer al fresco setting.

As the cliché has it, some appetizers to kick of the session.

TUNA SALAD MYR 16.20
It was very light and refreshing. I especially enjoy the part where the crispy fried lotus root cracked lightly in the moist tuna flakes, unlike other places which might either overdo it with mayo or too dry. They goes well together with the tart dressing.

Up next, some adorable morsels (okay, they are not that mini but tad generous) to amuse your taste bud.

IMAI-YA MINI MYR 23.20

AKITO SASHIMI MORIAWASE MYR 81.50

Ardent fans of sashimi would be terrifically thrilled over this bounteously  served 5 kinds of fresh catch, namely salmon, tako, maguro, shiro maguro and hHamachi.

Each fish is lavishly served with thick slice, giving the utmost satisfaction any Japanese buff could ask for. And I favourite has always been the silken shiro maguro, for its buttery and creamy texture, slowly melting in the mouth, oishii!

Not to be missed, inhouse special chahan.

FRIED GARLIC RICE MYR 13.90
Each grain of rice is fluffily enveloped in the soy sauce fragrance and some egg, stir-fried briefly, just until the rice is evenly coated with egg and the essentially, the ‘wok hei. Simply a hearty fare!

Those who yet to acquire sashimi appreciation, fret not, for there is one dish surely would get you into the mood.

ABURI SUSHI

Also known as roasted sushi, customers could relish in this gorgeous platter that consists of nigiri sushi with assorted topping that is partly grilled and partly raw to suit all walks of life.

SALMON MENTAI MYR 5

MAGURO MENTAI MYR 6.20

EBI MENTAI MYR 4.60

HOTATE MENTAI MYR 5

TAMAGO MENTAI MYR 3.40

SHIRO MAGURO MENTAI MYR 5

SALMON NISHOKU MYR 13.90
Fresh slices of raw salmon,  fish roe, and mayonnaise, all assembled as a whole like a rose, for ultimate enjoyment of oceanic treasures in just one gulp, with the popping ebiko bursting gleefully within.

IMAI YA MAKI MYR 22
Gone are the days where usually only dragon roll with mango topping are seen, why not try new and a more interesting twist to it? With more ebiko and my favourite Aonori to accentuate the taste of The Land of Rising Sun.

DAKU KIMCHI RAMEN MYR 25.50
Springy strands of ramen served in a flavorful broth with tender smoked duck alongside kimuchi, yum yum! Added with some Western tweak to it, cheese, oh yeah!

TERIYAKI CHICKEN BENTO WITH SPECIAL SAUCE
Each chicken meat is sliced proportionately, rendering the delightful chewiness and well marinated with inhouse made sauce, which is tad savory and spicy.

HOTATE MENTAI MYR 27.90
Huge and pulpy scallops doused with rich mentaiko sauce and grilled to perfection to retain the natural sweetness and juiciness.

And last but not least, some icy scoops to wrap up the sumptuous feast.

Matcha ice cream with goma variety, to pair with mochi.

All in all, IMAI-YA 今井屋  makes a wonderful place to dine in for those looking to have a cozy dining moment with families or a casual gathering with buddies alike.

Perhaps after enjoying wholesome meal, it's also good to take a light stroll along C180 square for some breezy walk and a feast to the eyes too- the colorful fountain. Beautiful!
