LWIN LEE |BERT’S CAFÉ @ SHAH ALAM

Seems like another pleasant café has bloomed up at the Shah Alam neigbourhood over a year ago and progressively become the fave place to hang out for folks of nearby and afar. Bert’s Café, a humble and cozy establishment which is initially borned out of the idea from Robert, is currently operated as family business, with the supportive help from its siblings as well as their mother, who is a really good cook.

Since opening in Jan 2014, the culinary maestro has become the main menu approver, which explains why most of the dishes inspiration comes from the Northern Malaysia influence as reflected in those homey recipes which we shall revealed soon.

Interior design is kept simple and straightforward, with some vibrant corner occasionally. Guests could also choose to enjoy the fresh air at the al fresco seating too.

CREAMY BUTTER CHICKEN (MYR 14.90)
Boneless chicken tossed in creamy cili padi butter sauce that calls more addiction. Each of the deboned meat is juicily toothsome, crispy on the outside while remaining moist within. No wonder it’s the best seller at this café. Yum yum!

Another signature includes……

MOI (MYR 9.90)
It’s actually a warm rice congee cooked with anchovies mixed with dried chili, salted radish, salted egg and soy sauce. Simply wholesome!

NASI LEMAK (MYR 14.90)
Created earnestly with honey-spiced fried chicken, sambal ikan bilis, sliced cucumber and hard boiled egg, this dish never fails to delight my taste buds with its fragrant coconut rice especially the lip-smacking good sambal that is not overly spicy but comes with some sweetness in it.

KARI KAPITEN (MYR 13.90)
This is actually a nostalgic dish during Sara’s childhood time, where it is deliciously cooked by Sara’s mom uniquely with their own-style recipe. The tender chicken cutlets are served in spicy tomato based gravy that is made smoother with the addition of coconut milk. Served with rice or garlic toast.

MEE KUAH (MYR 13.90)
Yellow noodles served in sweet potato based gravy with sliced beef, shrimp, egg and vegetables. At one point of time, it does remind me of savory Mee Jawa (=

SPICY SQUID SPAGHETTI (MYR 12.90)
Al dente spaghetti woofed up with springy squid rings, carrots and spiced up with some cili padi to awaken your palate (= Added with some grated cheese to enhance the overall flavor with some light cheesiness.

CUCUR UDANG (MYR 7.90)
Bite-sized prawn fritters that are delectably light and not too oily, served with homemade chili and gula Melaka sauce. A good blend of sweet-spiciness.

ROTI JALA (MYR 7.90)
The roti jala or rather ‘netted bread’, comes with beef curry.

SAGO GULA MELAKA (MYR 5.90)
Chilled sago in evaporated milk and gula Melaka. Old-time favourite!

Some chillers to quench the thirst on a sweltering day.

MANGO SELASIH (MYR 6)
Sweet mango bites goes perfectly well with the basil seeds.

ICED SHAKEN LATTE (MYR 12)
Smooth and aromatically milky, slurps!

STRAWBERRY CHOCOLATE (MYR 12)
Fruity berries tinge blending  in with chocolate richness using premium choc from Coffex.

PEACH TEA (MYR 8)

PASSIONFRUIT TEA (MYR 8)

LIME + MINT (MYR 8)

And more frizz for you to choose from (=

Or some cuppa to sooth the throat.

LATTE (MYR 9)
Freshly brewed from beans of Coffex Mokka blend

Of course, not forgetting their notable homemade dessert selections.

S’MORES (MYR 9.90)
Crushed and buttered digestive biscuits with chocolate and roasted marshmallows topped with chocolate syrup. Reminds me of the similar chucks I had at Gyu-kaku previously too (=

RISTRETTO ICE CREAM (MYR 9.90)
Homemade brownies topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and ground nuts
If you ask me what’s my fave pick among all the sweet tooth teasers? This is the best bet! (=

MERINGUE SUNDAE (MYR 10.90)
Crushed meringue with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream, topped with fruits, chocolate syrups and ground nuts. The meringue is made inhouse. No sugar added in the whipping cream, hence liking it so much as it’s not that cloyingly sweet. It’s really a rare occasion where I absolutely would indulge in these sweet delights.

Overall, it’s a good and relaxing place to chill out with buddies alike, to catch up over chatters while accompanied by a good spread of heartfelt grubs. Look out for their meringues whenever you’re here (=
