LWIN LEE | PINK BELLY @ LORONG KURAU, BANGSAR

Called it another sinful but worthwhile indulgence, real swine lover would not want to miss this café that serves up pretty good and impressive porky dishes that will leave you yearning for more.

Been gracing the serene neighbourhood of Bangsar since over half a year ago, particularly along Lorong Kurau, Pink Belly sets out aptly as what its name dictates- a place where you explore the many culinary possibilities when dealing with pork dishes, it’s all about pork, and nothing but the pork, as far as meat is concerned. Got your  eyebrows raised decidedly?

Decorations is pretty straightforward, cozy with warm ambience.

Let’s check out the scrumptious dishes that we sampled the other day, along with some, perhaps paradoxically paired companion- coffee drinking and pouring perhaps, hehe.

Kicking off the much anticipated porcine affair with some greens-infused beforehand (=

PINK BELLY SALAD (MY24)
Layers of crisp Romaine green lettuce filling up the plates bounteously with sliced purple cabbages, tomatoes cubes, scoops of juicy watermelons spheres and lychees, before spicing it further with chunky honey ham cube and smoked bacon chips. It’s refreshingly fruity and savory at the same time.

PORKY PENNE PASTA (MYR 24)
Came al dente and cooked in spicy aglio olio sauce to delight your taste buds with honey ham cubes, smoked bacon and mushroom. Optional to have it in either carbonara or pesto sauce.

Come next is what touted as the star-stellar of the day!

GRILLED PORK SKEWERS (MYR 26)
Temptingly spicy pan grilled honey glazed pork ball skewers served on aromatic buttered basmati rice and roasted root vegetables.

Freshly made inhouse with various aromatic herbs and ingredients, these feisty meatballs came lusciously bouncy in every bites and brilliantly paired well with the fragrant rice and grilled veggetables.

ROASTED PORK BELLY (MYR 34)
Undeniably one of the main highlight of the epicurean night- crispy pork belly served with a choice of Honey BBQ, Jalapeno or Original sauce.

Roast to perfect crackling texture, it’s definitely a toothsome piece to be enjoyed and perfect for sharing among diners. Met the pre-requirement of crunchy on the skin but remained tenderly juicy within. A glass of beer or two would be perfect!

BBQ STICKY PORK RIBS (MYR 75)
Another attention-grabbing masterpiece- pork ribs in the house!
Generous slab of juicy pork ribs served in full rack and skillfully cooked with chef’s special sauce, served with wedges and coleslaw. Meat was thoroughly marinated and easily fork-through especially in the medial part, nicely flavoured with the caramelized gravy albeit it already convincing on its own- the succulent meat and tender bites, slurps!

PORKY RISOTTO (MYR 25)
Not your average risotto any more.
The traditional Italian dish has been added a new twist of Oriental touch with the addition of Siew Yuk, a.k.a. roasted pork in it, along with stir fried caramelized risotto (optional to have it in original version), wild mushrooms and vegetables.

To wrap up the evening on a sweet note, we were served the savoury ice cream that slowly conjures up the various version that we have tried at BWB Flaming On The Table, La Café Memoire,  Piggy Tail and The Champ Kitchen.

SPECIAL VANILLA ICE CREAM (MYR 15)
Double dollops of vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream and strawberry slices, drizzled with maple syrup and topped off with pecan nuts, raisins and smoked bacon bits.

AFFOGATO (MYR 13)

Some coffee perhaps?

CRÈME BRULE LATTE (MYR 13)

CAPPUCCINO (MYR 13)

Ah ha, before it slipped off the mind, we also had a quick coffee sharing session with the founder of Pork Belly who also happens to be barista, guiding us through the latte art pulling session which entails with a brief hands-on experience. Yeah, I definitely need more practice since the last amateurs attempt few years back at illy Coffee @ Università del Caffèdella Malesia (=
It was fun though and interestingly insightful!

Some perfect thirst-quenchers from The Grand Hornbill to clear down the well-pampered tummy. Each available at MYR 13.

MARIGOLD GOLD, ROSE GREEN, OSMANTHIUS BLACK

Overall, Pink Belly definitely makes the ideal pit stop for diners who relish in everything and nothing other than porky dishes. Don’t leave the restaurant without trying the meatball skewers and roasted pork bellies.
