ORIENTAL CUISINE | OLD MAN RESTAURANT 老吔海鲜饭店 @ KAJANG

Oh yeah, after trails of Western gastronomy, finally we are back for some homey Chinese cuisine dining which we patronized upon good recommendation by the fellow foodie who just similarly enjoys food hunting minus the part of penning them down (= That’s fine, leave it to me then, imprint it in my Carpe Diem journey for another yummy sharing with you guys, nom nom…..

Old Man, as it has long been known, started off in a humble coffee shop before expanding into a larger, more comfortable air conditioned premises when business starts picking up. Those were the old days when my foodie buddy visited them in Kajang for a good taste of the old hand with the wok.

True enough, the culinary flair was pretty reassuring and we started off with must-have ‘special fried rice unlike elsewhere’ which my friend adamantly insisted with the rest of the accompanied dishes, completed with a pot of hot Kuk Po tea. Blessed!

Some claypot soup to warm up the soul………………

SHARK BONE BRAISED SOUP (MYR 25- SMALL)

The soup must have been boiled over some good, long hours to render such sweetness in it. And am guessing that soft, oyster mushroom-like sheet was the bone of the shark, hehe…

FRIED BEAN CURD & CRAB MEAT (MYR 12-SMALL)

Moist and succulent big chunk of silken tofu, doused with savory creamy crab meat bites that went really well with a plate of white rice.

SUPERIOR FRIED RICE WITH EBIKO (MYR 25- SMALL)

Voila, here you go! The widely and famously recommended, fragrant fried rice with ebiko!

Rice was light and fluffily fried till each grain is enveloped with smoky hint with some were tad crusty as in our usual claypot rice which is slightly charred on the perimeter. I must say that their seafood were rather generous, tickling your taste buds amusingly with much bouncy bites!

SALTED EGG SILVER ANCHOVIES (MYR 18- SMALL)

One nosh that is the favourite snack of my buddy. At first I thought they were white baits like the one I’ve eaten at Fish & Co, and it turned out to be silver anchovies indeed, that were deep fried till crispy and finished with a luscious coat of crowd’s fave- salted egg yolk! They can be very additive bites after bites though. I prefer this version more! Yummm…………

And such, that completes our quick excursion to Kajang for a taste of homestyle kind of food. Be sure to stay tuned for more local delicacy stories to come.

Cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries! ℒℴѵ
