DASHI DINING SAYA | ISETAN THE JAPAN STORE

Ever since the Nihon empire has widened its Eastern influence specifically in the heart of the Golden Triangle at Isetan The Japan Store, Lot 10 Shopping Mall, our visit to the mall has become almost a weekly routine where we would usually explore the many authentic recipes from Japan to titillate (or inspire) our local palates more.

After our recent sumptuous omakase course at Sushi Azabuat The Table, 4F, we are more eager now and gear up for further anticipation on what this exquisite enclave got to offer. And this leads us to the next pitstop- Dashi Dining Saya and Dashi Delica Saya.

Itatakimas!!!

These 2 stores actually operate under the same organization which have already garnered good reputation from its massive Hong Kong expansion; that allows you to cross order your preferred menu.

As Dashi Delica Saya is serving homey side dishes where the Japanese folks usually enjoy, diners of Dashi Dining Saya could actually call for ala carte add-ons from its neighbouring stores should you feel like indulging more on their tempting side dishes which includes the fruity Tomato with Apple Jerry that happens to be my favourite! Or you could also choose to take away the products to be enjoyed at home later too.

So,  after browsing  the many alluring nosh deliciously laying in front of us, we popped over to Dashi Dining Saya for a good dinner session on a Friday night (also to avoid the Friday jam of course ^_^).

The environment was calm and soothing, subtly imbued with Zen-ness, that eventuallyl led to a sensuous wholesome dining.

Dashi Dining Saya offers a selection of hearty yet salubrious selections to warm up your tummy, especially on a rainy evening. Hence, naturally Chazuke becomes one of our selections apart from the vibrantly beckoning Take Set, that comes with a bowl of rice and miso soup.

Here, presenting to you theJapanese soul food “Dashi Chazuke”

RICE WITH HOT DASHI SOUP GRILLED SALMON FLAKE (MYR 27)
Marvelous collaboration of Saya’s special Dashi Soup and Japanese hot steamed rice topped with selected ingredients.

You could choose the amount of rice that you wish, from the default small (200g) or medium (250g) and large (300g) at just additional MYR 2 and MYR 3 each.

TAKE SET (MYR 38)
It comes with a bowl of white rice and warm miso soup.

Fried Chicken ‘Saya Style'
Love each of those tender bites, so juicy and crispy but not oily!

Tofu And Kinoko Mushroom With Daishi Sauce
Another of my fave- mild but flavourful, thanks to its dashi stock-infused sauce.
Ichiban!

Japanese Traditional Stew ‘Chikuzenni’
This classic Japanese (Nishime) dishes which includes carrot, sweet potatoes and yam, somehow reminds me of our familiar Chinese simmered recipes- comes with a well-balanced of savory sweetness that is simply awesome!

Tomato With Apple Jelly (or Dashi Ginger On Other Days)
Here comes my creme de la creme amongst the candidates for its light and fruitiness!

Hokkaido Beef Croquette
Being a person who seldom fancy fried stuff- fear of its oiliness, but this Japanese croquette changed my mind. Apart from the skillful chef who fry it, the ingredients itself are nicely assembled and mashed, yum!

Grilled Mackerel With Eryngii Mushroom ‘Saya’ Style
Don't belittle this mackerel as the rolled fish has been soaked with cold daishi stock overnight for umami infusion. So, imagine that robustness, oishii!!

STEAMED EGG AND DASHI SOUP ‘SAYA STYLE’ (MYR 7) & GREEN TEA (MYR 3)

If you are a small eater, then Ume Set will be ideal choice as it comes in 4 portions, which is just nice.

In a nutshell, we find the dishes here were lovely and delectable, besides the fact that they are uber healthy and nourishing especially the umami taste!

What is umami?
Having been long dubbed as the ‘fifth taste’ by the insiders of food industry, and regarded as an obscure culinary concept that often described of having a meaty, savory and satisfying taste, the Japanese has found the best way to derive this subtle flavor by extracting the umami from flaked dried bonito and Kombu (dried kelp or sea tangle) over slow boiling. Sound tedious but fret not, as now you could savour it conveniently from Dashi Dining Saya here.
