OLD MOUNTAINEERS' CAFE, BAR AND RESTAURANT @ MT. COOK VILLAGE
As twilight slowly making its presence while the sun
took a break for the day, it’s one of the most anticipating moment in every
traveler’s diary- dinner time! Darn in need for carbo loading after some
extremely chilling but exciting at the same time through the exotic glacier exploration after some hours earlier at Tasman Glacier.
And so we went to the nearby restaurant touted serving
one of the best classic menus in town, all of which quaintly nestled just
slightly down the road from our cozy stay at The Hermitage Hotel.
Chill and relax at
this iconic cafe, bar, and restaurant of The Old Mountaineers Cafe Bar &
Restaurant, with an extensive historic photographic gallery that is full of
character and spirit.
This is the only business within the Aoraki Mount Cook
Village officially opened by Sir Edmund Hillary and is steeped with history.
Reflect the day with great organic coffee, excellent food options, a cold beer
or wine – and all with stunning views of Aoraki Mount Cook.
The moment I saw fries, my
eyes were locked on them and hence, let’s dig in!
The Old Mountaineers' Organic Hamburger with Chips
(NZD 26)
Dished out on a sourdough with organic steak mince,
lettuce, tomato, red onion, cheese and aioli.
The homemade patty was lovely and tasted homey which
revives back some nostalgic charms. They were earnestly created and served with
terrific, thick fries too!
And as usual for Warm Pillow, he always needed
something meaty and don’t mind to have sausage as his main meal- provided it’s
homemade and palatably assuring! Yeah- he’s tad picky on food and for that, we
shall know which repast is worthwhile to try based on his personal liking (=
Sir Edmund Hillary's Pork Sausages (NZD 32)
Served with gravy, organic potatoes of the day and
Mountaineers' salad or vegetables of the day whereby Old Mountaineers' sausages
are sourced locally and contain no MSG. No wonder they come mouthwatering
alluring!
Being a wine enthusiast, some tipples definitely come
welcoming!
House
Wine (NZD 8.50)
Riverlands Cabernet Merlot
