ALBANY WIND FARM @ PERTH, WA

As we were heading anticipatingly to the said farm as strongly recommended by the friendly folks at the Saturday Farmers Market earlier, we eventually reached the place after a short drive of perhaps 10 to 15 minutes or so.

Upon reaching, we were still tad skeptical as there was nothing much to steal our eyesight till- you wander further up the stair case till you see the huge, gigantic angelic tower! And I thought perhaps this was it- not too bad a sight of still tower cause it’s white and I always adore white architecture like lighthouse etc, but still nothing much extraordinary to take my breath away.

Just as I slowly tip toeing further into the trail with some curiosity with a mix feeling of mild disappointment (cause the hill seems quite highly elevated that impossible there isn’t any birds’ eye view right? I thought so…………..), what awaits in front wasn’t really as expected, really.

Enjoying the sea breeze and the sound of the ocean................

Guess this time was another case of rewarding serendipity! Hooray!
If I could, I wish to just stop walking awhile and sit at the bench for some hours of tranquility while enjoying the windy moment that’s really refreshingly rejuvenating at yet gentle at the same time. It’s just a pure blissful moment that ought to behold for as long as possible.

The third lookout point which sees the city.

The fact that we still need to check in to a new Airbnb stay on our second day in Perth later in the afternoon as well as to get some late lunch beforehand, we can’t stay too long so we tried to make the best use in the interest of time by immortalizing those serene moments in the form of photographs as much as possible. I…………………………I…………………………. just simply fell in love with the place! Literally Carpe Diem!

Brief Facts of Albany Wind Farm

The Albany Wind Farm is approximately 12km south-west of the city centre. It is in an elevated position approximately 80m above the Southern Ocean. This height, proximity to the coastline and small distance to the main electricity transmission system make this an exceptional wind farm site.

This farm sits 80m above the Southern Ocean. It’s such a prime location that there are only 7 days a year where the wind is not strong enough to turn the turbines.
The wind farm is open to the general public every day of the year and you are free to visit when you wish. At the wind farm there is a large car-parking area, extensive network of boardwalks, artwork and information panels, plus a connection walk to the Bibbulmum track.

How It Works?

The Albany wind farm consists of 12 wind turbines of 1800kW connected to the Albany electrical system and control network. The turbines are ENERCON E66 machines from Germany and were installed by Enercon Power Corporation, an Australian Company. The turbines have a 65m tower and three 35m long blades, making them one of the biggest available in the world at that time, and the largest to be installed in the southern hemisphere.

The turbines operate automatically, with the three blades adjusted to maximize power output from any wind direction or strength. They have been designed to withstand the strongest winds likely in Albany and incorporate special lightning protection. The Albany Wind Farm, which officially opened in October 2001, was ten years in the planning.

And our travel journey continues....................

And a 'leopard' ladybird seems trying to bid voyage to me by stopping by on my chapeau for awhile at the same time, reemphasizing the essence of Carpe Diem!
