PAPASAN CANTEEN 食堂 @ OLD KUCHAI ROAD, TAMAN DESA

It was a random venue made ad hoc when the Malacca friend decided to pop by KL before he droves back to the heritage town on that Saturday evening itself. As many Klang Valley folks would have known, traffic at that hour during weekend at somewhere near Old Klang road could be horrendous. Hence, we just sort of did a quick search for any nearby eateries that need not to brave through the traffic from our current location.

So we saw this Papasan Canteen- a rather unique name I would opine. I was wondering if it’s a Thai or Taiwanese restaurant due to the ‘-san’, hehe.

The place was rather packed by the time we reached at about 7pm+. Prime time for dinner as expected.

Bili Bara Don (MYR 24)
Signature Fish Bowl!

Chirashi bowl with sushi rice, salmon chunks, cucumber, tomago, radish and tobiko. Squeeze some lime juice for added zest. The overall combination was a brilliant and toothsome one, appetizing with cubes of salmon and greens that’re bite-sized friendly.

Lala Omelete Rice (MYR 20)
Pan fried local clams meat with bean sprout, chili flakes, rice wine and omelete on rice. Now clams lovers could indulge satisfyingly as much as you can!

Milky LION’s Mane Muchroom Rice (MYR 20)
For vegan fans, you would delight in this vegetarian Hericium mushroom with celery in creamy sauce on rice- although price is slightly on the high side. My first time of trying such mushroom by the way.

It’s definitely not your usual economic meat-free bowl due to the pricy mushroom breed used. Tried this out as the Malaccan buddy lamented that this fungi species has some unique texture and it’s tasty too, from his previous experience in one of those vegetarian dishes. Not too bad flavor wise- it was chewy and delish with fragrant curry leaves, only if the sauce is added slightly more otherwise seems bit dry overall to the palate.

Chilled down with some quenchers. We quite enjoyed the subtle aroma of the fragrant organic soya drink- it just tasted different in a better way than the usual soya bean drink, hehe.

Iced Sparkling with Honeycomb (MYR 17)

Iced White Chocolate (MYR 12)
Organic Soya Milk (MYR 7)
