CNY FEAST @ YOUMIQI SHUN DE CUISINE 有米氣順德料理, OLD KLANG ROAD (OKR)
Known for its expertise in Shunde culinary, Youmiqi
(有米氣順德料理)
has been grazing the neighbourhood of OKR with various Oriental recipes that is
culturally rich as well as pleasing to the tastebuds- especially its convincing
traditional desserts that somehow hold my heart dearly.
Currently located along the brisk road of OKR, dine-in
guests need not to worry about parking scarcity as valet parking service is offered
inhouse by the restaurant itself, allowing its customers to enjoy their feast
worry-free and indulging in the camaraderie of their companions.
Not only that, the interior of the restaurant is designed in
such a way that closely resembles the very essence of Chinese heritage, with
different paintings and assorted ornaments that enliven up the space
prosperously. One may also easily attracted by its nicely drawn art that is beautifully
curated on the wall at the ground floor. It’s huge so you can’t miss it.
And in conjunction with the coming Chinese New Year, Youmiqi
(有米氣順德料理)
has come up with several special Lunar menus for you to choose from to best
suit your palate and preference during the gathering.
Among the festive dishes that greeted us that lovely
evening were………………….
SALMON
YEE SANG
A must-have quintessential dish in every lunar
celebration- Salmon Yee Sang it is!
The main celebratory plate consists of various crisp
and refreshing ingredients that are freshly prepared from scratch. I
particularly intrigued by its idea of using julienned ginger which always
terrifies me that they gonna be too spicy for me- but in this case they are not
but surprisingly palatably catchy with its crunchiness and juiciness, alongside
with the accompanied sweet and sour sauce. Yum!
Some appetizers before the mains ushered out.
HERBAL CHICKEN FEET (MYR 7) & PICKLED CUCUMBER
(MYR 6)
MASTER CHEF FLAMING PRAWN (MYR 12/100G)
I must say that those prawns are really huge and
indeed very fresh! Each bite of the
THE ROASTED STANDING OVATION- CHICKEN (MYR 88 WHOLE)
Unique highlight from the restaurant.
Whole chicken was skillfully roasted in such a way
that it still retains its juiciness where the dripping chicken essence is
collected in a bowl and meant to be dipped with the meat after sliced. On top
of that, the chicken breast remains juicy throughout and by now, you should be
able to guess which is my usual favourite part of the poultry, hehe.
YOUMIQI
HOTPOT
This seafood-rich broth has always been their
signature and a must-have whenever dropping by. Serving piping hot in a bronze,
goldish wok, the choice of ingredients are actually flexible and it’s up to you
how much seafood or vegetables you would love to have.
Once the choices have been made, then the house
flavourful broth would be added on top of the ingredients. After a quick simmer,
tada, the dish is ready to be served!
As you have it boiled longer, it tends to taste
sweeter and I really enjoy the natural sweetness coming from the veggies and
seafood.
SWEET
AND SOUR PORK RIBS
Unlike the common sweet and sour pork meaty cube cutlet,
this recipe here is slightly different whereby it’s actually pork ribs style
that has been cut into smaller pieces. So do be extra cautious of the hidden
bones and enjoy slowly.
SPICY
CHILI CRAB
It’s robust in flavor and thankfully, not overly hot
to my faint tongue
SALT AND PEPPER WHITE BAIT (MYR 38)
Nice snacks for some light bites
PAN FRIED FUNGUS WITH FISH BASE (MYR 25)
The one we were having was
pork base and it’s tastefully convincing. I love how the combined texture is
and never thought black fungus could be prepared such way, thumbs up!
SPECIAL FINE PANCAKE (MYR 28)
And for the dessert time, everyone seems to really
adore this plate for we pretty much help ourselves devouring 2 plates! Haha..
It is miraculously not too sweet that I was dreadful of
earlier, but instead brilliantly prepared with semi-soft white sweet paste
underneath those flaky crust that’s simply a joy not to be missed and a good
ending on a sweet note for the night. It actually reminds me of those local
crushed peanut ‘mua chi’ which is my all-time favourite during childhood time-
in Penang especially (=
For those who are looking for some privacy for their occasion,
VIP rooms are also available on the upper floor. Just rang them up earlier to
check on the room reservation to secure one for a toothsome evening of dining. So
check them out soon for your upcoming lunar feast this ‘oink-some’ year!
Let’s ‘lou sang’ soon!
