VINTAGE THAI CUISINE @ DAMANSARA JAYA
After visiting this area
while dining at Vintage Thai Cuisine recently, we realized there is still much
more places to venture- other than the neighbourhood of Damansara Uptown of
which is notoriously known to be inundated with various modern hipster cafes.
Naturally, it was a delightful discovery where we could try out other local
delicacy from the SEA region.
Also known as Mueang Kao
Thai Cuisine, Vintage
Thai Cuisine is strategically located opposite Damansara Jaya’s housing area
with a long row of shop houses, along the same row of Sudo Brew café too. This
restaurant serves up authentic Thai Cuisine that has been refined to better
suit local Malaysian palate. Nevertheless, should diners have other special
request in terms of preferred flavour or the spiciness intensity, feel free to
let them know and they would inform their Thai Chef to adjust them accordingly.
Quintessential featured dishes to kick off the feast
that evening with some synonym appetizers that are representative of Thailand
culture.
Homemade
Thai Fish Cakes (MYR 18- 6pcs)
Northern
Thai Papaya Salad (MYR 13)
Spicy green papaya salad northern style (Isan), topped
with dried red chili and marinated raw Thai crab in special homemade sauce. It’s
quite a unique taste to me.
Stir Fried Paku (MYR Small MYR 13, Big MYR 19)
Paku veggie stir
fried in Thai belacan sauce or optional Thai oyster sauce. It would be great if
it was less salty. Best paired with a plate of warm rice.
Chicken
Feet Salad (MYR 13)
Springy salad made with Chef’s special sauce of saltish
spicy, sweet and sour.
I always enjoy this iconic appetizers since young-
just watch out that it can be bit spicy as you indulge more :D
Son-In-Law Eggs (Small MYR 12, Big MYR 19)
Fried boiled egg
served with Thai tamarind sauce and fried onions.
Seemingly common but
the gravy makes all the difference! It had the lovely balanced of both sweet
and sour nuance, yum!
Signature
Dancing Fish (Seabass MYR 50, Tilapia MYR 45 or Red Snapper MYR 85)
We had the seabass where it was deep fried till golden
brown before tossed with miang kham
ingredients and sourish spicy sauce, rendering it sensational taste in every
bite. It could be bit spicy to some, but you could always request them to tone
down on the spiciness level.
Miang Kham is actually roasted grated coconut mixed with
potpourri of condiments and special sauce before wrapped within cha plu leaf-
which also known as ‘one bite wrap’.
Super
Moh Fai Talay (MYR 99)
Steamboat style pot filled with assorted seafood
combination and soup of your choice- you my choose from Red Tom Yum, Clear Tom
Yum, Coconut Tom Yum, Garlic Lime Chili Soup or Gaeng Som.
This Thai seafood pot came with whole fish, asari
clams, 6XL tiger prawns, squid and scallop in its Signature Tom Yum.
Apart from the
savoury dishes, we were also introduced with the recommended desserts and quenchers.
Thai Fragrant Coconut (MYR 8)
Thai Red Ruby (MYR 6)
Water chestnut served
with honey jackfruit, crushed ice and coconut cream.
Personally, I prefer
my ice to be more refined and slightly richer in coconut cream.
Coconut Ice Cream (MYR 12)
Premium coconut ice
cream topped with fragrant coconut flakes and assorted toppings.
Signature Coconut Shake (MYR 11)
Signature Coconut Shake (MYR 11)
Among all the sweet
candidates, I enjoy this most.
Overall, this place
offers a warm and cozy dining ambiance that is perfect for both family and
friends to gather over for a casual spread of Thai cuisine. Perhaps you could
also check out this place the next time you are nearby and wishing to try other
style of cooking instead of the usual Western fusion- you might be delighted.
