This Merdeka season, MyTOWN Shopping Centre bursts into a riot of colours and culture with its theme “United by Art”, celebrating creativity as a bridge between people and stories. In collaboration with A Piece of Malaysia (APOM), MyTOWN unveils #empatbelas 2025 — a scarf showcase like no other. 14 designers, each representing their home state, have transformed the humble scarf into a wearable canvas of Malaysian stories, celebrating this year’s theme: “Kita Banyak Pattern.”

From 22 August to 16 September 2025, shoppers can step into a kaleidoscope of
creativity as 14 designers, each representing their home state, transform the humble
scarf into a bold canvas for Malaysian stories. This year’s theme, “Kita Banyak Pattern,”
celebrates everything that makes each state unique from its dialect and dress to
customs, quirks, and charm.
The nationwide design call drew over 70 submissions, from which one designer from
each state was selected to represent their home state through colour, motif, and texture.
Since its debut in 2021, #empatbelas has reimagined Malaysian pride on stamps,
pantuns, and movie posters. For 2025, MyTOWN becomes the home of the scarf edition
and the debut of an exciting new scarf bag that blends style and practicality so you can
literally carry a piece of Malaysia anywhere you go.
“We are proud to partner with APOM for this year’s #empatbelas showcase. MyTOWN has
always been a place where creativity, culture, and community meet — and inclusivity is
at the heart of what we do,” said En. Azhan Che Mat, General Manager of MyTOWN
Shopping Centre. “This is another way we celebrate Malaysian stories and give them a
platform to shine.” MyTOWN is also home to thriving local entrepreneurs such as Christy
Ng, Buttonscarves, Tracey, Nunha, BookXcess, SSF, Royal Kebaya, and Butter Kaya
Kopitiam.
Beyond the showcase, MyTOWN has planned a month-long celebration packed with
activities for all ages:
• Stamp Quest Adventure – Complete four fun game stations to win exclusive
MyTOWN merchandise.
• Hands-on Weekend Workshops – From batik painting to family craft sessions,
inspire creativity together.
• Interactive Art Walls –Doodle your love for Malaysia or weave your story
into our collaborative string wall.
• Gachapon Surprises – Limited-edition capsule fridge magnets with a Malaysian
twist.
• Live Weekend Performances – Cultural dances, traditional music, and the
crowd-favourite Merdeka marching band
More than just a showcase, the partnership between MyTOWN and APOM reflects the
spirit of “United by Art”; bringing people together through creativity and shared cultural
pride. This collaboration is a tribute to national pride and artistic talent, while reflecting
MyTOWN’s ongoing support for local creators and homegrown stories.
Celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day with colour, culture, and creativity — only at
MyTOWN Shopping Centre from 22 August to 16 September 2025.
Till then, cheers for now and follow us at Carpe Diem for more ‘food-ful’ discoveries!
Take care & stay safe everyone!
