Kanpai Japanese BBQ & Bar @ Sri Petaling
Finally,
we are paying this Japanese eatery a visit, after the previous encounter with
it while passing by this place during dinner time at Hana Ichi. It holds the
similar warm setting of a yakiniku place with open area kitchen, where you
could see the dedicated chef at work, preparing your order. Coach is comfy to
be laid against, and wifi is available at your convenience.
The
environment is actually pretty dimly lighted, with spick and span table
setting. There are also huge alluring menu pictures hanging nicely on the wall.
I was told that this eatery has earlier being transformed from a Western fusion
to the current Japanese dining since seven months ago. The food is nice and has
since drawn quite number of frequent patrons over here.
Shishamo
Yakiniku
Without
further ado, we quickly call for our pick. So mine would be this Shishamo
Yakiniku Bento. As you might guess, I pick this fare also out of my preference
towards fish dishes. Since Saba fish has been quite a frequent menu, that is
why this time round wish to enhance my gastronomy coverage :D Now I know that
Shishamo is actually a pretty small fish that almost looks like a gigantic
anchovy. Generally, it is dark on the back with a silver-white underside. The
Shishamo is a Japanese delicacy which is usually grilled or fried as awhole and
served with its roe intact called komochi shishamo.
Those
tiny fishes have been slightly chargrilled before drenched with some savory
sauces. For the rice, I upgrade it to Japanese garlic fried rice for better
aroma at the extra cost of RM3. Each grain of rice is nicely covered with the
fragrance of fried garlic and quite toothsome to go along with the Shishamo
fishes. You could practically eat it all including their bones :D
Nabeyaki
Udon
The
Nabeyaki Udon is quite awesome too. The noodles are springy, bathing in piping
hot clear soup with chicken, prawn tempura and mushroom. The broth is savory
with the tangy chicken meat, except that there is an intense smell of chicken
meat over the steam. Not too sure why it is so, but when you take a few sips, the
soup seems normal to the palate, slightly on the saltiness of the soya side.
Unfortunately, the prawn tempura is bit soggy after being soaked in the soup
for some time. Anyway, the sunny side-up is good to go and I enjoy the chewy
mushroom too.
Miso
Soup
The
miso served here is surprisingly quite watery, as compared to the usual served
at other Japanese eatery. It lacks the fragrance and mild saltiness of the miso
bean paste. Although if comes with generous portion of kelps and bean curd,
somehow, it still doesn’t improve the taste much. In addition, the green tea is
also bit diluted, but it is refillable.
Anyway, I still enjoy the presence of
the kelps in the soup very much for its many nutritional values together with
the silky tofu:D
Yakiniku
Pork Burger
Also,
not forgetting to try the Yakiniku Pork Burger, that makes quite a decent
snacking time too :D It comes in two small buns, each sandwiching the yakiniku
pork fillet alongside some lettuce. It is grilled till fragrant with some oil
still looking lustrous on the outer layer. It is tender and juicy. Nice to the
visual and enticing enough to the palate, but I find it a bit fatty on few
part, so I remove them accordingly. I find it bit dry still and could be better
is a small amount of mayonnaise is to be added alongside some dashes of sesame
too.
