KIM HAUS @ CAMPBELL STREET, PENANG

Shortly after the quick dinner as well as café hopping at Coffee Affairs and Dcova  earlier, finally it leads us to another off-the-cuff find- one of the earliest goldsmith shop along Campbell Street that has been revamped with a new, chic look complemented with food and beverages to feed curious cats and hungry beavers around the town. And that is none other than Kim Haus!

At first glance, I was actually wondering who is the owner of this ‘house’ and its operation here that somehow kind of spellbound any passerby with its bold projection of dark paint balanced out with warm lightings.

At one point, we really thought it’s only another eateries but on a second guess, it alos seems like a lodging places, guesthouses meant for tourist with the several floors establishment. True enough, upon walking in and further discovered, it’s a new concept of boutique gastropub where guests could make this place their cribs for few nights here and fill up their tummy at the café or lounge section when hunger kicks in and the night calls for some leisure chill out.

Those happy faces of pleasant surprise discovery, slowing immersing in the reposeful environment.......

Basically, the ground floor caters for bakeries and savory dishes, the second is a lounge enclave where there will be live bands serenading the crowds on certain days, while the rest of the upper floors are actually rooms available for travelers’ accommodation.

It’s opened since last December with contemporary ambiance is obvious in its interior design, which is reborned from its previously named proprietorship of Kim How- one of the oldest gold jewelers in Penang, embarked with a 4-storey tall building , which has since seen additional industrial influence in its setting.

There were also various unorthodox graffiti paintings decorating some part of the walls around the building. Some were even painted by travelling artist around the world.

Few interestingly themed sections- Vault Room (seriously transformed from vaults where golds are really kept and secured previously) and Gold Room, that boast a coeval vintage of current artistic perceptiveness in its surrounding.

Though we are still full to the brim from the carbs-loaded dinner awhile ago, guess some light juice, drinks and bits of desserts won’t hurt the diet so much right, as we thought, hehe……

Overall, Kim Haus seems to provide a soothing shelter for friends looking for that cozy place to hang round and catch up over some light chatters, while accompanied by jovial live band serenading at the background. Definitely would recommend this unruffled nook.
