Bavarian Bierhaus German Restaurant @ Jalan Pinang, Kuala Lumpur

Bavarian Bierhaus

Finally, am officially paying this German restaurant a maiden visit, although I used to pass by it quite often previously. Bavarian Bierhaus is actually located very conveniently at Jalan Pinang, just opposite the Aquaria KLCC. The restaurant holds a very conducive surrounding and exudes some vintage feels with all the artistic picture hanging pleasantly on the wall. You can also find a decent wine cellar displaying the many types of wine offered here or you could help yourself with the signature beer of Paulaner.

You can choose to dine in at air-conditioned environment or even al fresco area, while being accompanied by some shining armour placed in a glass for display. And we are so lucky enough to have the main Executive Chef, Massimo Zampar, to share with us some of the tips on how to prepare a good dish of German cuisine. He even shows us how to use the machine meant for making pasta such as pappardelle from freshly kneaded dough.

Mix Cold Cut Platter

Seems like the plate of supreme Mix Cold Cut Platter has made its presence known by stealing everyone’s attention the moment it is being delivered. For me personally, is the first ever experience to see such many types of red meats being dished up at one go on the wooden board. My friend for one jokingly said that it looks like a good meal for the tiger cub for the rawness it exudes :D Nevertheless, after some few sampling sessions, it is not that intimidating after all. I particularly enjoy the Calabra Salami for the mild wildness of spice it has. This cold cut is actually a dried cured spicy salami from South Italy that is smoked over maplewood that gives a rise to the unique aroma. For this sensuous variant, I enjoy having it with some pickled cucumber, mini onions on a soft slice of Farmer Bread, with some arugula salad. Plainly fantabulous! On top of that, you could also try out the other choices of ham like the Parma Ham (months aged ham), Salami Milnano (dried cured salami from Milano), Coppa Emiliana (Pork neck salt-cured) or even the Mortadella Emiliana (dried pork sausage that is cooked under low temperature with pistachio and black pepper, that is truthfully a saporous gourmet moment.

Mix Sausage Platter

This Mix Sausage Platter by Bavarian Bierhaus is surely a course worth celebrated amongst the aficionados of German Pork Sausage. Seriously, all of the variants are really succulent, and could be comfortably touted as one of the best in town especially the Bratwurst Sausage, as commented by some gourmet friends. The choice of the voluptuous meaty fare includes the famous Farmer Bratwurst (Small Pork Sausage), Hungarian, Thueringer, Chorizo (A spicy Spanish pork sausage), Neurberger, Emmenthaler sausage (Sausage of Swiss cheese with large holes), Frankfurter (A smoked smooth-textured sausage of minced pork), German pepper, grilled bacon, lamb sausage, with sides of sautéed potatoes, green pea with sauerkraut. As for the accompanied relish, you can whet your palate with the inhouse special sauce of roasted garlic mayo, German curry ketchup, mustard and Habanero mustard. Am pretty sure by now, your taste bud is pleasantly buckled under a whirlpool of loaded degustation. Sehr lecker !

Bavarian Pork Salad

Our palates are first greeted by the sumptuous Bavarian Pork Salad that looks stunningly inviting with the glazing crispy bacon on the grilled pork escalope, both lying condusively on top of the assorted wilted salad. The healthy fare also comes with juicy cherry tomatoes, romaine lettuce, purple cabbage, warm favourite Halloumi cheese,  with some light dressing of Bavarian mustard and olive oil. Besides the perfectly broiled juicy pork fillet, am pretty beguiled by the Halloumi cheese, which is a traditional cheese from Cyprus, usually made from goat's or sheep's milk, for it doesn’t taste too goatish at all. Guten Apetit!

Caesar Salad

For the more health conscious folks, this Bavarian Caesar Salad seems to fit in quite well into the diet. Simply but heartily dished out with generous crisp salad crop like romaine lettuce that is also accompanied by hard boiled Omega eggs for the additional health benefits, Parma ham, crispy Panini croutons with grated Pecorina cheese all in which are zestily adorned in delicious garlic dressing. The Parma ham which has been dried aged for 18 months is actually a tad saltish but paired well with the plain greens. It is indeed light and ideal for gastronome who seeks for the best what nature’s got to offer.

Prawn Salad

One second is all it takes to enchant the entire epicurean with its eye-catching and seemingly fiery grilled prawns that are really juicy and succulent. The seafood is actually not spicy at all and I suspect the culprit could be due to some paprika herbs being used, but nonetheless, good job. The huge prawns are then tossed with thinly sliced apple for some crispness with green and purple salad, cherry tomatoes, smoky bacon, buffalo mozzarella, rings of red onion and some touches of roasted pine nuts. Sweetness from the apple in this case, has somehow perfectly matched the nourishing plate of prawn salad, along with the cotton-light luscious buffalo mozzarella. Double thumbs up!

Berlin Steak

It is definitely a barmy epicurean night when accentuated with the serving of this succulently grilled Berlin steak. At first glance, it looks kind of like French cuisine fine dining, albeit slightly dramatized, with the signature presentation of crisp spears of asparagus that are exquisitely wrapped with smoky streaky bacon with some steak fries. The pork steak is actually laid on top of a sinful spread of cream spinach that is truly mouthwatering. The spinach has been cooked just balmy while remaining tangy in the enticing whitish gravy. Slurps!

Pork Ribs

Definitely a gargantuan slab of Pork Ribs! The second awe-inviting menu after the first encounter at one gustatory wine boutique-cum-food at Cheras area. This back ribs are absolutely oven-roasted, slathered with BBQ Pineapple or Cherry, Brandy and Plum Sauce. It is served with complementary sides like warm Cannellini beans and soft mashed or sautéed baby potatoes and fennel slaw. The beans actually shares some resemblance of mungbean’s soft texture and I can’t help but love the smooth mashed potato so much! It has some light cheesiness in it with some aroma imparted by the rosemary stalks.

Crispy Pork Knuckle

Another signature and authentic dish that you can look forward whenever dining at Bavarian Bierhaus is none other than the house specialty, Crispy Pork Knuckle, that comes with a racy amount of sauerkraut and boiled baby potato that is dashed with fresh herbs. The juiciness and exuberance of meat tenderness is complemented with its traditional pork sauce that comes with a mild taste fines herbes , in the light brown sauce. It is done just nice and not too creamy either.

Homemade Spinach Ricotta Cheese Ravioli

Craving for something decent but not too overladen with guilt-ridden meal?  Fret not then as you have just about the right carte du jour to fit into your comfy food list; Homemade Spinach Ricotta Cheese Ravioli, which is also chef self-inspired dish. Basically, the skin of the ravioli is made from the same dough used to make fresh pasta and shouldn’t be too thick. Then wrapping inside would be zesty ingredients that includes spinach that is wilted pleasantly and coated with creamy ricotta cheese. The plate is then garnished with some fresh tomato sauce that lends some sourness and also aromatic basil leaf, before topping it off with grated pecorino cheese. This westernized dumpling is sumptuous and actually quite light, thus suitable for everyone in general, even our lacto vegan folks too.

Italian Tiramisu

This Italian Tiramisu is an inovated version that comes with mascarpone cheese, lady finger, coffee, grappa and cocoa powder. According to Chef Zampar, this would be a contemporary tiramisu compared to the old-fashioned but memory-clinging one. In his creation, the grappa has been added in to further enhance and heighten up the aroma that comes from the coffee essence. For your information, grappa is a type of Italian brandy that is made from residue of grapes after pressing. Another pretty impressive intermixture dessert after the discovery of Rum Ice Cream at another Bavarian eatery at Damansara Heights.

German Pancake

Gently bespeaks and appears appealing to all the bon vivants around the tables especially the fairer sex. All the ladies, including me, are awed by this fruitfully garnished soft pancake that comes with juicy raspberry, strawberry, kiwi fruit, melon and then tops with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup. The pancake is exceptionally cushy when eaten hot and your palate is destined to be pleasantly swayed by the oozing hot chocolate cream that is sandwiched within the German Pancake. Magically enticed and for a second, the guys around us somehow just got diminished- pun intended. :P

Strawberry Chocolate Mousse

Another alluring gastronomical invention by Chef Zampar would be this Strawberry Chocolate Mousse. This long-standing dessert has garnered quite a thrill of fans along the way that even chef himself is pretty much in love with it. It comes with a creamy, moderate-thick and sinful spread of Chocolate Mousse that is served in a sparkling martini glass. According to chef, the reason why he choose to it to be of chocolaty flavor is that he knows most of us, the foodie or most people from all walks of life, enjoy chocolate dearly. Even me, frankly speaking, is not a big fan of mousse dessert all this while, but this one by Chef Zampar, is really amazing and gets me hooked on to it, even when everyone else is actually too full to savour more of it :D It is also garnished with some slices of juicy strawberry, crispy almond flakes alongside some drops of berries puree. I find the texture of this mousse dessert is very light and fluffy. Loving it till the very last scoop :D
