Restoran Foo Yuan Dim Sum @ Sri Petaling

Nowadays, there is indeed a high influx of dim sum restaurants choices available almost everywhere, with Sri Petaling, having one of the most concentrated centre, in the vicinity of Cheras area. According to one of the staff, this Restoran Foo Yuan Dim Sum is just a couple of months old, after the ownership changes hand earlier. Now it is operated by a lady boss who hails from China. Fresh ideas are flowing into this oriental dim sum place as the owner is in the midst of setting up free Wifi service for its guests, so they can even enjoy football match here, since this restaurant does serve dim sum as well at night, wow!

Custard Bun a.k.a Lau Sa Pau
We are warmly greeted upon reaching by the owner and ready to take our pau order. Without hesitating, we both call for Custard Bun a.k.a Lau Sa Pau each. This fare is a must whenever having dim sum and also remains my all-time favourite :D I find it very sinfully delicious, as always, but tastes slightly better. The pau served here is of bigger size and comes with gooey goldey flowing filling of salted egg yolk. Very creamy and satisfying, tastes much better than the one served by Imperial Pot. I think I can still take another one :P

Steamed selection
After getting warmed up by the creamy pau, we help ourselves with the steamed selection such as the prawn dumpling, bacon wrapped minced pork and salted egg yolk with seaweed. The dumplings are filled with fresh and juicy prawns, bacon is tender with the bouncy minced meat, then followed by sweet seaweed goodness that melts with the flavorsomeness from the egg yolk. Delicious! Thumbs up!

Fried selection
Coming up next is the fried varieties like Fried Carrot Cake and Fried Salted Egg with Meatballs. The seemingly ubiquitous fried carrot cake is made uncommon here with is aromatic wok hei and sufficient savoriness from the ingredients used such as the carrot cake, bean sprouts, egg, scallion and decent dashes of chillies flakes. It adds on the spicy kicks that enticed your taste buds for more. Quite good. As for the latter fried fritters, I felt that the mixture filling is a tad hard and dry. No doubt it is encased in a kataifi-like dough which is quite crispy, and paired with some mayo dipping. It would be better if the inner ingredients are moister.

The Signature Chicken Nest Bun a.k.a “Gai Wo Pau” (RM5)
Ensued next is the famous “Gai Wo Pau”, which is a pau that is encapsulating glutinous rice with chicken meat. The meat is tender and juicy, nicely paired with the zesty gravy of the glutinous rice. The outside layer of the white dough is very fluffy and soft too. Unlike the previous bun I have at Pan Ki Dim Sum Restaurant, which also resides at Sri Petaling, this one comes with tantalizing glutinous rice filling which is more wettish and not dry like the other. Thumbs up and the portion is best shared by 2 person :)

Overall, the cost comes around MYR 33 with 2 glasses of Chinese tea, which is not too bad. The Custard Bun is highly recommended and hope the tea would help to clear off the throat and lessen the guilt-ridden foodie :P

Alright, now that the tummy has been ‘fueled up’, time to journey to Fraser Hill to grasp some fresh air and perhaps some brisk walking too. Cheers folks!
