LWIN LEE | MAMAS Korean Restaurant @ SUNWAY GIZA

Anyeonghaseyo……..

After a recent spate of gastronomy exploration from French, Italian and to the usual Western fusion, finally am back, to indulge in my all-time favourite fare again, Hanjungsik!

Thanks to my alma mater’s buddy, that I get to know about this wonderful hidden gem that serves hearty Korean meal at a rather affordable price to many. Such a thrilling news huh? ^^

We were there on one lazy Sunday afternoon when we couldn’t make up our mind of which cafes to dine. Eventually, we heeded the suggestion to try out the sumptuous fare at MAMASKorean Restaurant, which is conveniently located at Sunway Giza, at the first floor.

The moment we reached the main entrance after climbing 3 stairs, I was kinda stunned and charmed by how Zen-diffusing its interior décor is! Lively and vibrant hues with wooden furniture’s as its main theme, essentially provides the best oasis for one to unwind after a hectic day.

The spacious and cozy atmosphere also makes it a perfect venue for family gathering, or even casual business occasions.

Aside the many delicious ala cartes, MAMAS also caters for lunch set even during weekend! Yes, am not joking :) Surely not a common sight you would find especially within the radar of Golden Triangle. Therefore, it’s certainly a steal and double happiness, for its tantalizing feast that certainly would keep you coming back for more.

Lunch Set with 5 dishes available everyday, from Monday to Sunday,  12 pm to 3 pm.

SOY SAUCE STIR-FRIED PORK (MYR 16)

A scrumptious plate of juicy and tenderlicious pork meat, where each thinly sliced meat is thoroughly marinated flavourfully and then stir-fried to perfection in aromatic soya sauce. Each bite is delightful and really mouthwatering!

The chewiness of the meat is really good and the meat is still succulently appealing. Somehow or rather, it reminds me of another terrific porcine recipes from Yashino-Mewhich I used to frequent now and then during quick lunch hour.

JJAJANGMYEON (MYR 10)

It’s one of the iconic staple of our Korean friends, jjajang myeon. It’s a plate of rice or more commonly with noodles, which are thickly smothered in special dark jjajang sauce, along with other ingredients like potatoes, carrots, onions, crunchy ucumber slices and many more.

Ah, besides enjoying the mains, don’t forget its noteworthy banchan, which I would say is relatively special and interesting, compared to elsewhere. Over here, you get to sample squid’s tentacles as one of your side dishes, where usually this fare has to be ordered separately as ala carte. Bounteous serving!

HAEMUL PAJEON (MYR 35)

A perfect snack for everyone literally!

It’s a seafood pancake, pan-fried till lightly brown with delish seafood mixed in the dough. I enjoy the fragrant crispiness on the crust, not too thick a paste and the best part is, it is not too oily that makes the delectation even a more satisfying one.

The specialty lies in its sauce, which I believe is homemade and very palate-pleasing indeed! Comes with some slight tartness and savory but not spicy redish relish(as might be misinterpreted from its appearance), it’s very delicious and has flavored up the pieces of pajeon superbly as you dip them in excitingly.

In a nutshell, dining at MAMAS surely brings back the sweet memories of times spent in Jeju and Seoul, both cultural and culinary wise. The calming surrounding coupled with soothing Hallyu melodious tunes easily allow anyone to immerse soulfully and unlax for a moment from the hectic busy life. Kamsahamnida and am already yearning for another return soon!

Cheers!
