LWINLEE | GANGA CAFÉ : AUTHENTIC VEGETARIAN FROM SOUTH INDIA

While many of our Indian friends are ushering the holy celebration of Lord Ganesha’s birthday, we too, have a fair share of enlightening discovery, withal gastronomically, in alimentary vegetarian originating from South India at GANGA CAFÉ, located comradely at Bangsar. It is solely an oasis, dedicated to real seeker of pure Indian vegetarian from Gujerat recipes.

The humble café is owned by an amiable and loving Gujerati couple; Prabough and Meetha, who has set foot in Malaysia since a few years ago. Having operated since Nov 2013, the words has got around for the delish vegetarian spread that you can delight your senses, and my vegetarian colleague, being one of the contributor (=

Not only Indian folks would love it, but trust me, even meat eater foodie would fall for the spectacular spread of the vegetarian rendition, under the helm of affable Meeta, who has been cooking passionately for nearly 30 years! The genial cook, who also deemed as the “QC controller” for the food quality and secret recipes at the kitchen, is a true advocate who believes in creating a healthy and wholesome homecooked food using only the freshest and original ingredients (some are even shipped from India itself), besides being a kind soul that emphasizes on the importance of moderation. No food ought to be wasted unnecessarily; so long one could gulp it down decently.

One of the many revels that kick start the review session saucily, health-promoting fresh beverages that certainly would change the mind of our greenish skeptics buddies :)

PRANIC JUICE (MYR 7)
Heal and detox with mix of herbs, spices and mint leaves, leaving you rejuvenated.

GANGA TEA CRUSH (MYR 7)
A refreshing mix of mint, lemon and lime in your unconventional ice tea.

MANGO LASSI (MYR 7)

LEMONADE (MYR 7)
Lemon and lime with a tinge of soda. Simply refreshing!

MASALA TEA/ CHAI (MYR 4)
If special, comes a MYR 5, freshly made and added with brown sugar
Taste fabulous! No wonder it was recommended by my colleague ^^

Soon, the mains start charging up one by one whimsically.

STUFFED FRIED CHILLI (MYR 3.50)
Green chilly is creatively deep-fried while encrusted with light batter of chickpea flour, mixed with various spices in zesty sauces of yogurt, green chutney and mint sauce. Simply appetizing!

ALOO TIKKI (MYR 2)
A pleasant mushy potato cake that is coated with bread crumbs before deep fried and topped with coriander. Does reminds me of Thai fish cake (=

VADA PAU (BREAD) (MYR 5)
A cutesy petite bites of vegetarian burger sandwiching spiced mashed potato with home secret recipe, zipped with some red and green chutney.

CHANA BATHURA (MYR 8)
My favourite pick of all, so does the rest around the table.

Resembling our familiar ‘roti canai’ but a healthier version, the bathura is undeniably palate-pleasing with its slight chewy texture. Light and crispy but not too oily either, accompanied by nip relish of homemade yogurt that is dashed with some chat masala powder and also spiced chickpea

PAU BANJHI (MYR 8)
A Gujerati’s interpretation of burger set. The bun is similarly buttered and toasted for some crispiness, to go with spice condiments of potato based, generously doused with fragrant chopped coriander. I like the way the freshly diced onions are paired with the tangy bajji filling.

RADISH PARATHA (MYR 6)
Enjoy the bouncy bites of paratha, accompanied by cubed potatoes spiced up with coriander seed. It is also less oily than the usual Taiwanese Onion Pancake.

MASALA PAPADUM (MYR 2)
Thinly fried papadum topped with colouful bits of creative addition which include chili padi as well, so be alert on it :P Of course, you may request it to go easy on these fiery chillies upon ordering, so you won’t end up stepping on the unexpected landmine when you are enjoying it chirpiy, haha.

Ideal for those seeking for unconventional papadum :)

NORMAL CHAPATTI (MYR 1)

AYURVEDIC CHAPATTI (MYR 2)
A special chapatti made from unique mixure of wheat, oats, maize, ragi, Chana dal and barley. Sound too goodish to you? (=

PAYASUM
Served complimentary only on Fri, this sweet South Indian dessert is loveable by everyone!
Cooked passionately with assorted nuts, raisins, sago, semolina and others, you get to enjoy a cupful of nice and milky drink.

Indeed something interesting and a new learning curve, when it comes to exploring vegetarian diet other than the common Chinese cuisine, with spice presence being the main difference in Indian interpretation. Previously, I have had also enjoyed a wonderful vegetarian of Banana Leaf fare that enticed me with its delightful papadum too. Nonetheless, each panaches seems to vow its respective trail of foodies convincingly with its very own uniqueness and salubrious values. Glad that now my vegan fare alternatives have widened up adventurously!

Till then, have many great days ahead and keep exploring gastronomically! Cheers!

  1. OH MY GOD
This looks so good. SOO GOOD.
I was about to comment about how sweet Prabough and Meetha were and how wonderful it was that they were smiling from their eyes. ^^
And then the health drinks... with mint! I'm so tempted!! Do want!
But then the pictures of the food killed me. Absolutely killed me.

Now my father (fellow Indian food appreciator) has you to blame for me shaking him awake and rolling him to Bangsar just so I can eat here, oh wow. Everything looks so tasty! *0*
