MOVIDA RESTAURANT & LOUNGE BAR @ SUNWAY GIZA MALL

Movida is defined by its clean and minimalist lines that accentuate a contemporary ambience mellowed with the warmth of traditional charm in its space. Playing host to the exciting and invigorating beats of world music and the myriad of world music charges the atmosphere, with soulful rhythms and delightful vibes that make MOVIDA a refreshingly new and difference choice for dining and night entertainment.

This popular eatery and lounge in the Klang Valley is one of the most recognizable brands in Malaysia and has been expanding its radar ever since 2010 ago. Before widening its wings further to Bukit Bintang and Puchong, Sunway Giza outlet has been the long standing, pioneer branch of Movida, one of urbanites’ favourite spot, much frequented gastropub for toothsome food and beckoning booze served at a very good deal!

Ah, bump into a familiar pal- Classic LaddieScottish Barley, that brought back the fond memories during BruichladdichMaster Class recently.

MOVIDA, essentially meaning "party" in Cuban street slang and "Movement" in Spanish is a kitchen-cum-bar and club lounge featuring the sounds of world music, serving up the best of Italian, Mediterranean, Cuban, Spanish and many more cuisines. Currently the kitchen is helmed by the affable Chef Boven, whose passion in the cullinary métier is scintillatingly reflected throughout the conversation as we listen attentively to his insightful sharing on his culinary journey, citing the esteemed Marco Pierre (the youngest chef to win 3 Michelin stars at the age of 28) as his inspiring apotheosis, who has also trained up the famous Chef Gordon Ramsay as well.

We started off with some best-sellers here before devouring into the mains and drinks

THE MOVIDA PLATTER – MYR38.80
Spring roll, crispy baby prawns, beef bacon wrapped sausages and chicken wings, the perfect crowd-pleaser.

If the batter on the prawns fried till golden brown is lighter, it would be terrific! As that would unveil the sweetness of the seafood itself.

The fried chicken wing was really awesome, perfectly brined and marinated with fish sauce, soy sauce and pepper. The overall taste was flavourful, executed just nice to my liking.

CHAR GRILLED LAMB – MYR23.80
Sweet potato chips and coriander salad with mint jelly, accompanying the chewy bites of brilliantly chargrilled lamb. Meat is grilled to perfect tenderness, end with light smoky hint. Engagingly tantalizing, not too chewy not gamey, no wonder it’s crowned as one of the hot-sellers here!

The fact that the mint sauce is made from scratch using fresh mint, rendering it a very fragrant relish to have!

BBQ HICKORY CHICKEN WINGS – MYR22.80
Juicily barbequed chicken wings, rubbed with savory Hickory sauce and served with togarashi mayo for some added punch. The delectable tanginess comes from the slight brush of Hickory sweetness sealed within the subtle smokiness.

MALAYSIAN STYLE SATAY PIZZA – MYR28.80
Here you go, Italian bake infused with local Asian twist!
Chicken satay with crusted peanuts, cucumber and onions.

MOVIDA AWARD – WINNING SMOKED DUCK BREAST AND PEACH PIZZA – MYR35.80
Interestingly tweaked pizza recipe of peach, juicy smoked duck breast, caramelized onions and cheese, liberally drizzled with balsamic reduction. Each component is already alluring by itself which further makes a superb combo when composed as a whole. Highly recommended should it be accompanied with a thinner and crispier crust! Ma ma mia!

INDONESIAN FRIED CHICKEN LEG – MYR22.80
Steam rice, deep fried tofu, cucumber, crackers, boiled egg and served with housemade special sambal merah that has been toned down on the spiciness to suit local taste buds better.

We were then treated to the bedazzling Movida’s signature cocktail first before ushering the rest of its peers (=

MOVIDA BLAST – MYR38
Part of the vibrant, innovative, and criminally underrated Movida cocktail, mixture of vodka, midori, malibu, rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice and sweet & sour

SANGRIA – MYR38
Red wine, dark rum, triple sec, orange juice and lemonade
From its humble roots in Spain, sangria has grown to become a popular, refreshing party drink around the world. In the United States, sangria was first tasted at the 1964 world’s fair in New York. The Spanish world area served this fruity wine punch to its visitors, and history was made!

SLEEPING BEAUTY – MYR30
Sleeping beauty is out of the vault.
Fresh mix of baileys, galliano, creme de cacao and vanilla ice cream

TEQUILA SUNRISE – MYR28
Made of tequila, orange juice and grenadine.
This classic concoction is tasty for both day or night. Previously created by bobby Lazoff and Billy Rice in the early 1970s while working as young bartenders at the Trident Insausalito, California.

As for Movida’s Specialty Drinks and Smoothies which are kids-friendly……………

VIRGIN KIWI MOJITO – MYR22

TROPICAL DELIGHT – MYR22

FROZEN VIRGIN DAIQURI – MYR22

FRESH WATERMELON JUICE- MYR 10

OREO SMOOTHIES – MYR15

Lunch set has just rolled out and currently only available at Sunway Giza mall. The lunch set is inclusive of a salad side and choices of either a glass of soft drink (coke, sprite or soda), ice lemon tea, coffee or tea. The best part is the lunch recipe is on weekly rotation, which means patrons gets to try various sumptuous dishes every week and could anticipate more surprises!

So nearby working executive could now bask in the indulgence without any hurtful pinch to their wallet. The Weekly Set Lunch is available from 12pm to 3pm daily!

CHICKEN PARMIGIANA – MYR 19.90
Generous cut of chicken meat gratifyingly baked with mozzarella and mushroom tomato sauce, intermixed with dried oregano and fresh basil as part of the herbs. Also not forgetting the addictive US Steak Fries!

I personally love the Steak Fries very, very much! These finger snacks are dusted with inhouse specially made bacon salt, oh yes, bacon salt, rendering it a very engaging bites that you’ll tend to hook on to it without feeling overly stuffed up. It’s due to this not-so-omnipresent fries that is very light and fluffy in texture, not so dense as commonly tasted elsewhere. Personally, I would vote for this type of fries compared to the normal wedges or thick-cut fries.

I really love how the poultry was being done. Never coarse nor dry in every bites but instead uber moist within the crispy crust. All juice was cleverly locked in by the coating of tangy mushroom slices with melted with parmesan. Thumbs up!

PAN SEARED SALMON – MYR19.90
Norwegian Salmon Trout served atop wilted asparagus and mouthwatering dill cream sauce with cubes of roasted Russet Potatoes.

Salmon is done medium well locking up all the moisture and accompanied with special fries imported from US together with fresh dill and chives in the sour cream-based dressing, livened up with some lemon juice.

It’s said that piquancy goes really well with fresh salmon. Nyumm………

So what are you waiting for? Let’s heed over here soon for a quick sips or swigs after a tiring day for a leisure evening of wine and dine at one of the fastest growing food and beverage chains in the country.
