Wine Degustation Night @ Grill 582, BEST WESTERN PREMIER Dua Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.
If you guys are
looking for some cool place to meet and fete with buddies alike, Grill 582 makes one of the best candidate
in town, which is strategically located at BESTWESTERN PREMIER Dua Sentral, at Jalan Tun Sambanthan. This flagship hotel
under Best Western brand in Malaysia, offers guests a comfortable yet exclusive
stay, suitable for both business as well as leisure purpose.
In conjunction
with the latest launching of a new range of global wine collection at Grill
582, this eventful night also celebrates its first Wine Program that showcases
the collaboration between Grill 582 with The Wine Academy. The wine and food
affair evening are further enlivened with the opening speech by Roderick Wong,
the founder of The Wine Academy, en routes by a cordial greeting by Ian Hurst, General
Manager of BEST WESTERN PREMIER Dua Sentral of the tourism property with the
rest of its distinguished invitees.
Mr. Ian Hurst
is a very passionate person such that his affableness reaches out to anyone almost
instantly, as he shares his marvelous insights garnered throughout his career
in Asia, Malaysia particularly, while contemplating how much he enjoys and loves
Malaysia warm culture, that he slowly develops a fondness towards our cuisine
as well. A strong believer in gender equality, he believes that women could
also achieve similar, if not better, wondrous milestones compared to their male
compatriots. While we are enjoying the camaraderie session, he too reveals that
the culinary skills of the inventive Chef Siti Arini Darsom, never fails to astonish
him, as he enjoys his perfectly done Black Angus Beef Fillet.
On the other
hand, Roderick Wong is another perceptive bon vivant who specializes in wine appreciation
that also has an equal fare of insightful ideas to share with us. This humble
wine connoisseur, whose favorite red wine is Felton Road Calvert Pinot Noir, is
actually an innovative gourmet when it comes to food pairing as he reveals how he
would usually bring along his own red wine when heading out for dim sum feast. Doesn’t
sound like your cliché, but is the adventure and creativity that matters. I could
absolutely see his points.
Subsequently,
the wine and food affair officially kicks off with wine samplings as well as sumptuous
food pairing from the Hotel's restaurants. We soon embark upon a journey of an
array of gastronomic delights specializing in three influential cuisines
offered by, namely Hugo’s on 6, Kembali Kitchen and Grill 582.
Hugo’s on 6
Definitely an
ideal chill out spot for those who enjoy good food and drink with great music
serenading. You may find both local and Mediterranean cuisines over here that
has the capacity of 80 persons at one time.
Among the hors
d'oeuvre that pampers our palates are Albondigas,
Watermelon and Feta Cheese Salad and Pizza
Paraviccini.
Albondigas
Slow-cooked
lean lamb meatballs in rich tomato sauce. Very tender and savory.
Watermelon and Feta Cheese Salad
With red
onion, cress and extra virgin olive oil. An exceptional and delightful finger
bites, never knew that feta cheese could make such a good marriage with this
juicy fruit.
Pizza Paraviccini
Fresh baked
with homemade tomato sauce, green peppers, turkey ham, pineapple, button
mushrooms, fennel seeds, mozzarella cheese and a good handful of black olives.
There are
myriad of white wines available with the best recommended goes to the 2012 Miguel Torres Hemisfero Sauvignon Blanc
that offers intense floral and fresh aroma, a fruity body and silky palate.
Exquisitely engaging with its good acidic structure and amorousness hints of exotic
fruits like passion fruit and grapefruit.
Or another Sauvignon
Blanc series of 2011 Ohau Vineyards
Woven Stone, that also offers smooth palate of great finesse with a long
cheerful finish. Looks bright and agile in the glass.
Apart from
the wide range of New Zealand wines, you could also have the Spanish winery 2012 Pares Balta Wine Blanc de Pacs. At
a slightly lower alcohol percentage at 11.5%, it exudes a dry but pleasant
aftertaste that is dominated by some refreshing fruity aroma.
Capturing bartender
Syamil in action!
Kembali Kitchen
A restaurant that
offers a touch of classic Kampung, that celebrates international flavors and
local favourites in a chic, contemporary yet warm atmosphere combined with soothing
background music and perfect theatre-style lighting, a restaurant of the total
sensory experience per se. It could accommodate up to180 pax each time.
Among the
mouthwatering fare to tickle our taste buds are Nasi Kunyit with Chicken Rendang, Lamb Rogan Gosht and Gulab Jamun.
Nasi Kunyit with Chicken Rendang
Yellow rice
with aromatically spiced chicken meat. Pretty unconventional but unique in this
case as basmati rice is used instead of the usual glutinous rice. I find it
pretty good and better textured as each grain of rice is thoroughly enriched
with the fragrant spices.
Lamb Rogan Gosht
Slow cooked tender
lamb with Indian spices.
Gulab Jamun
A candied and
sweet Indian dessert.
Too bad,
cocktails are not part of the selection as the night is meant to highlight
wines savouring :)
Grill 582
Upon entering
Grill 582, you would be greeted by the artsy and mystical-looking Wine Tree.
Bearing the name as “The Wooing Tree”, it is a family owned single vineyard
estate situated next to the town of Cromwell in Central Otage, New Zealand,
which has been touted as the restaurant’s wine selection of the month.
Some relishing
starters:
Tasmanian
Ocean Trout with Baked Brussels Sprouts
Sweet and
juicy meat.
Crème Brule
Not a big fan
of crème brule, but this has smittened me surprisingly with its decadent creamy
texture, enhanced by the flamed crusty layer of caramel.
A glass of
Merlot to clear down your throat perhaps?
Cheers
Patrick, and toast for many more endeavors and wondrous moment to come.
Or a glass of
Hot Lemon Juice to subdue your redness
after the indulgent moment with various wines. Thanks to genial Monica and Anne,
that shares the effective tricks.
Ambrosial carte
du jours are also available at this cosy restaurant that boasts itself with
expertly grilled meats and fresh seafood that is set to impress you and your
guests against the warm and grandeur setting.
One of the tantalizing
menu would be “The Prime Rib” on Bone- 1824
Grain Fed Beef .
300gm Beef
Rib served with grilled Portobello mushroom.
And what’s
best to complement the fabulous night other than a bottle of the signature Fürstenfass Pheromon 750 from Weine Von
Weinkellerei-Hohenlohe Furstenfass?
This Germany
wine is a little carbonic, very light but sweet and fruity to taste. Love it!
Needless to
say, the night has wrapped up fruitfully with splendid knowledge and perception
unveiled from the newly met acquaintances. So, do hope to see you guys again;
Martin, Patrick, Monica and Anne! Also many thanks to Mr Ian, Roderick and
Iskandar Rejab, Restaurant Manager and Sommelier.
