Brew & Bread Coffee Bar @ Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam
It was an
appreciably chilly late afternoon on a Saturday that we decided to take a
detour to Kota Kemuning in search for another good gourmet coffee experience at Brew & Bread Coffee Bar (BnB),
all the way from Cheras. Upon hearing where we hail from, Joe was kinda stunned
but nevertheless, welcomed us with his passionate sharing on coffee especially
on brewed coffee range.
Oh you guys must
be wondering who is Joe right? Well, he is actually the co-partner of this
lifestyle café owner, who helps out along with the owner’s mother, Mrs Tee, in ensuring
the smooth-running of this outlet at Kota Kemuning. This first flagship of BnB
is helmed by Joe’s friend, who has gotten the essential coffee certification
from The Specialty Coffee Association of Europe
that aims to satiate the taste bud of its discerning guests with their range of
inhouse light-medium roasted coffee beans, using the regal Giesen W6 coffee roaster.
In the roasting room.
BnB has been around for two years now, and is a place that offers great coffee at truly affordable price. This simplistic yet chic café exudes a casual and comfy environment that makes it an ideal place to unwind. I actually adore the quaint and rustic décor for the vintage feel it conjures up.
As for the menu, it is relatively interesting, which varies from soup, hot sandwich, pastries, coffee, juices, desserts, pasta and mains, that caters for all-day brunch and high tea too.

Tempting menu.
For our tête-à-tête catch up, we have ordered the obligatory Caffe
Latte (MYR 7) and
Piccolo Latte (MYR 7) to be paired with our dessert
selection later on.
The Piccolo
Latte is nicely brewed from the handsome La Maarzocco and comes with the
quintessential fuller body aroma.
BnB Signature Piccolo Latte; single ristretto,
steamed milk and thin micro foam.
In
comparison, the Caffe Latte is
milder than elsewhere I have tasted; perhaps due to the different roasting
method here; i.e. Light Medium Roast. Nonetheless, it is still delightfully
milky and pleasant to the palate.
Piccolo Latte; single
shot, steamed milk and thin micro foam.
Soon, sweet
tooth craving is being fulfilled, with the ushering of this plate containing Matcha Cake (MYR 9) and Peppermint Choc (MYR 9) that are sought
from Pastry World in the vicinity.
Prolly I have
higher expectation for the Matcha Cake that I felt the green tea taste is a bit
lacking, and sorta overwhelmed by the white cream filling. It would be great if
the matcha taste is more intense to impart that subtle yet dainty pleasurableness. Nonetheless, the cake
texture is fluffily soft and moister than the one I have savoured at Tokyo Pastry. I also find the bites of medium-hard
red beans enjoyable too, along with some light glaze.
As for the Peppermint Choc, it is a nice piece of
chocolaty plus minty dessert that is able to pull through with this paragon confectionery
marriage. Simply toothsome!
Just before
we leave the café for another feast at Damansara Uptown, we are indeed lucky to
have Joe to enlighten us further on the non-milk based coffee appreciation.
Here he shows us that the coffee produced using this majestic and intriguing Cold Drip apparatus, would produce coffee with hint of earthy and winery taste that is akin to whisky (Oh hey, booze fans out there!) but only 3000ml is available each time after 1 day of dripping. Thus, only limited quantity is available due to its time-constraint pain in the posterior to prepare it freshly, so you might want to get your hand on it, higher chance during the weekends. And it is the Ethiopian Sidamo coffee bean that makes the best candidate for this methodology over the Kenya Kirimahiga variant.

visually appealing website here.
Till then,
have many great discoveries and cheers folks!
