LWIN LEE | Bari-Uma Ramen @ Jaya Shopping Centre

After its maiden successful flagship in Singapore, Bari-UmaRamen has now greeted the palate of fellow Malaysian since 28th May 2014, at one of the matured neighbourhood at Petaling Jaya; Jaya Shopping Centre, that has just undergone a massive facelift recently. The launching of this first outlet in Klang Valley in the already ramen -flooded area does not pose any inferiority to this Japanese staple which has since garnered accolades from regular Japanese customers- an edge over its peers (=

Hence, it provides a promising springboard for Bari-Uma Ramen in this sea of F&B town, which has to date, spanning over 40 outlets across the region of The Land of Rising Su

Ohaiyo gozaimas!

Locating the restaurant is quite an easy task due to its strategic location, which is seen packed during peak hours especially lunch time. Bari-Uma is managed by Nippon Delicious Sdn Bhd, whose flourishing Hiroshima recipes; authentic taste of TONKOTSU SHOYU RAMEN, has spoken for itself with the robust expansion and history dated back as far as 22 years ago inJapan.

Famed for its premium handmade ramen noodles, gourmands get to choose from various noodles textures ranging from firm, original to soft. Noodles are freshly made and must be utilized within 3 days’ of shelf life; otherwise, they would be discarded. This clearly shows how Bari-Uma emphasizes on its food quality, thus wouldn’t allow any slight compromise during the course of food preparation.

Only the freshest ingredients are used in their food preparation with the best meat is sourced from Spain, to offer diners an unequivocal tenderness encapsulated by the thickly cut-char siew meat. The specialty over here is that the pork meat is grilled rather than the ubiquitous way of roasting it, for this method is seems to be more effective in locking up the juices and succulence within.

At the recent review session, our tastebuds have been wonderfully amused by the true taste of ramen, prepared the most traditional way in its signature tonkatsu broth, shoyu base as well as other sides. Sharing great insights and some light moments with us is Aldred Yaw (Director of Nippon Delicious), an inspirational entrepreneur who frequents to Japan often in search of a more refined Japanese taste.

Let’s wait no further ado as the night has officially kicked off with ever-tantalizing Gyoza!

Gyoza- 5 pcs (MYR 11)
~ Pan-fried minced meat dumpling, best paired with some vinegar to spice it up. Meat filing is really thoroughly well marinated, very juicy and they are already a lovesome lots to be eaten by themselves. Am not a usual big fan of Gyoza due to oiliness, but this version from Bari-Uma has won my heart undeniably.

Negi- mayo Gyoza- 5 pcs (MYR 12)
~ Spicy version compared to the original taste, caters for foodie who want some kick in their otherwise plain gyoza. Sprinkled with some chopped scallions, spicy sauce and the unmistakably mayonnaise, they are equally mouthwatering to the last bite!

Engrossed in the yakitori grilling session is the passionate Head Chef, Eden.

Soon, the skewered cutlet of meats makes its appearance as the quick interlude.

Yakitori Combo – 5 sticks (MYR 13.90)
Conveniently bite-sized morsels are grilled to perfection, scintillatingly drenched in tare sauce for the mild smokiness brush.

For this combo set, guests get to try out all 5 different varieties at one go, namely Negima (Chicken thigh & leeks), Butanegima ( Pork thigh & leeks), Tori-niku (Chicken thigh), Sasami (Chicken breast) and Butabara (Pork Belly), with the crown goes to Butanegima for its melted fats of pork belly that gives arise to some fatty sweetness.

Ensued next is the Chef's Recommendation dish.

Noritama-Uma (MYR 29)
Pork-flavoured shoyu soup, thickly cut flamed chashu served with ajitama and my favourite nori!

Love the perfectly flavored wobbly egg yolk!

Shoyu (MYR 23)
Pork-flavoured shoyu light soup, spiced up by a thickly cut flamed chashu.

I personally enjoy this lighter version more as it is also undoubtedly super rich with high quality soy sauce for the base of the tonkatsu soup in which the natural flavor of tonkatsu is well extracted.

Kara - Uma (MYR 26)
Pork-flavoured spicy soup, thickly cut flamed chashu served with menma and negi.

For some friendly kick of hot spice, this bowl of ramen would be a good choice. The chilli oil actually enhanced the ramen flavour as a whole, leaving a reminiscent afterraste

Ishiyaki Chashu Chaofan (MYR 14.90)

~ Fragrantly fried rice served with flavourful minced meat in a hot stone bowl. Indeed a hearty and vibrant bowl for a foodie on the go.

Some refreshing beverages to wash down the throat! ^_^

As Bari-Uma advocates that the essence of the ramen comes from the soup, diners could expect a sumptuous feast over here especially their super rich tonkotsu broth that has definitely gone through a painstainking process. The ingredients of the pork soup are selected carefully and prepare under hygienic condition. Potherb, chicken foot, pork bone and other ingredients are put together and boil for more than 10 hours to produce creamy soup.

Indeed "Super Tasty" in Japanese, as signified by its trademark, i.e. Bari (Super) Uma (Tasty)!

Therefore, if you are looking for an original taste of Japanese ramen, just pop over here one of these days to pamper your palate ooishi-ly!
