Sam Kee Restaurant @ Taynton View, Cheras, KL

It was a warm reunion dinner with the other OpenRicer last Friday evening at Sam Kee Restaurant. Thanks to Open Rice Malaysia for this gathering opportunity at yet another great food spot. This newly renovated seafood restaurant is located at Tayton View, Cheras and is still within the vicinity of Cheras Leisure Mall, thus make it easily accessible to all.
Upon reaching the venue, we were greeted amiably by Open Rice’s team and seated comfortably in one of the reserved tables.  The environment was cozy and well-ventilated. One would easily notice the various menus being displayed on both sides of the wall. Soon, our feast began! ^^

First dish to arrive was Stir Fried Prawns in Japanese Unagi Sauce. Wow, I said to myself, for I thought it was pretty innovative to have such assimilation of Japanese elements in the Oriental way.  It was fragrantly stir-fried and the prawns were really succulent.

Next was followed by Claypot-cooked Tilapia with Hard Shell Lala. It came in a big bowl of gravy with some glass noodle and lala in it. Trust me, the lala was really huge to me for I hardly come across such size. Fish was fresh and sweet. However, I find it tad salty to my liking, but overall, it was still toothsome.

Then it was ensued by Pumpkin Treasure. It was one of my favorite dishes for the day as the whole dish was heartily braised to perfection. Not only the pumpkin was soft and sweet, the accompanied assortment of greens, poultry and seafood like prawns were juicy and scrumptious! You could really savor the seafood sweetness, for all Sam Kee’s seafood are transported daily from Pangkor Island,  thus rest be assured that all food served are fresh and preservative-free.

Soon, we had Chew Seng Pot and Crab Meat Agedashi Tau Foo to join the table. The former was served in a hot stone bowl of gourds, thus reminded me of Bibimbap naturally, hehe :) Not bad as we could also find some Korean fusion in the earthenware used ^^.  The latter was also one of my top picks as the bean curd was really smooth and silky. It was nicely seasoned with the accompanied soya sauce and fresh crab meat on the top.

Last but not least, the dinner was rounded up with various stir fried greens. It was a crunchy one and visually pleasing for it had a mixture of carrots, lotus root slices, black fungus and gingko nuts. Totally a wholesome one! ^^

After that, we were treated to the demonstration of Sam Kee’s 60 years secret cooking of “Wat Tan Hor” with egg gravy by its chef. Though we had just taken our dinner, we were still looking forward to sample this signature dish^^. The hor fun was good and tossed with adequate wok hei. Bear in mind that, eventhough no garlic was being used, still, the dish was so aromatic. Superb!

My friend and I were also delighted to receive such a lovely memento which was specially flown in all the way from Hong Kong. Thanks a bunch again to Open Rice Malaysia! Another great dining experience indeed!
Some hot chestnuts do make a great companion that night! ^^

Kudos ^^
