Spice Garden Imperial @ Chulan Square, Bukit Bintang.
Call it a
mini marathon of getting to know Indian cuisine much better. Here I am a gain,
at another Indian restaurant at the following week, that is no stranger to many
foodies nowadays, Spice Garden Imperial. Situated side by side with Nawab, lies
this restaurant that has a grandeur and lavish décor internally. Table settings
are prepared in a spit and span manner, elegantly bedecked with roses, almost like a fine dining place. There is
also a lounge area to cater for the whisky aficionados in town, be it whisky, liquor or any booze except beer, you
have in mind. Overall, this place exudes a very conducive and comfortable
environment. If you comes during lunch hour, there are set treat in store for
you too.
Fish Briyani Rice
Soon, another
affair with Briyani Rice is about to start :D Just that this time, am trying
Fish set that also comes with Bryani rice. I wish to compare the difference
from having it with the usual chicken biryani. Indeed, the fish version tastes
equally delish with its soft meat that is encased with a thin layer of batter.
The fish cutlet is actually marinated with spices and that explains why the
meat is full of flavor. When eaten with rice, it lends some hand to the already
herb-flavoured rice that is also already tasty. However, I do find that the
rice here is a bit tad salty to me, so perhaps they might want to go easy on
the spices next time. The accompanied
sides that you could enjoy would be Achar, Papadum, Raita, Chutney, salad and
also some ice cream as a sweet treat :D
Traditional Indian Spice
One of the latest Indian relish that I know are the chutney and raita. The latter actually looks bit greenish and more like a minty sauce in a milky texture to me. Later do I find out that actually raita is an Indian condiment made with yogurt (dahi) that are commonly used as a dip. The yogurt may be seasoned with coriander, cumin, mint, cayenne pepper, and other herbs and spices. But in this case, it seems to be more of mint and cilantro base :D As for chutney served here, it is prepared indiscriminately in a coarse texture. It comes with fresh and pickled vegetables like tomato, onions and some Indian yogurt as well, and thus tastes a bit sour.
Quite a refreshing dips when put on the fish fillets too :D
Vegetarian Set
I always
think that Indian serving is very friendly to our vegan folks. At most of their
eatery, we are bound to stumble upon delish dishes that also could be taken by
vegetarian. At Spice Garden Imperial, you can either choose ala carte or trying
out their sets. I would suggest to go for the latter one for hassle-free ,
unless you have an in depth knowledge pertaining to Indian cuisine, else you
would be troubling the waiters with all your curious questions on the menu :P
So for this set, it comes with rice that are also accompanied by naan bread,
alongside some similar condiments like Achar, Chutney, Papadum, Salad and also
Panner Dish with Dahl of the Day. The bread is actually quite filling especially
after taking the rice, so you might want to go easy on it. Oh ya, the set also
comes with an option whether to have ice cream or gulap jamun.
Panner Tikka
One of the
highlight that you can expect from the vegetarian fare is the Panner Tikka. As
this version is served with a gravy, it is then called paneer tikka masala. I
once first tried it at Anjappar and quite like it for the harder and chewier
texture than normal Western cheese. Oh,
did I tell you that it is actually a type of fresh Indian cheese, that is marinated in spices? :D The paneer,
though is tender, has a crisp singe on the surface. It poses as an alternative
to the chicken masala for vegetarian and
traditionally eaten with mint chutney, but in this case, is more to buttery
masala. Yum !
And some vanilla ice cream to round up your meal :D
