LWIN LEE | KORU CAFÉ @ EMPIRE DAMANSARA

For those of your who are yearning to spend some leisure moment vacationing in New Zealand but have yet to visit the country, then Koru Café could be a great pit stop to fix your longing temporarily.

A New Zealand enlivened café who draws inspiration from the Kiwis land, has been greeting folks within Klang Valley ever since last August ago. The brainchild of this café comes from its passionate food lover-cum-barista owner, Alison, who is also a self-taught baker, has previously lived and worked in Wellington & Christchurch, and then decided to bring back the wonderful experience to local folks here of being in the café in New Zealand; self-acclaimed home of the Flat White and with more cafés per capita than New York City.

No qualms that Koru Café is the perfect spot for the Kiwi café culture experience- a small café with the vision of being a cozy space where people can meet, enjoy great food and get served the best coffee and sweets to be found outside of New Zealand. The menu includes an array of New Zealand’s staple sweet and savoury delicacies including the Lamington, Custard Squares, Raspberry Slice, Bacon & Egg Pie, and Pinwheel Scones.

Welcome To Koru Café!
Drew inspiration from New Zealand and aspires to introduce some earnest grubs that are vastly enjoyed by the Kiwis.

Rather than the ubiquitous hipster café, I prefer the sleeker projection of Koru Café that exudes a soothing yet calming ambience upon stepping in. Apart from that, Alison even plants her own herbs, so they are pesticide-free, ensuring consumers gets the best quality of what they pay.

To kick off the day wholesomely, let’s have a quick run through of what to expect from this little quaint homey café.

BACON & EGG HOLLANDAISE (MYR 22)
Soft Panini filled with grilled bacon and eggs topped with homemade hollandaise sauce, served with salads, chips and homemade tomato chutney.

Love how the soft Panini bread lighted toasted while sandwiching luscious pork bacon slices, which goes well with the freshly homemade tomato chutney.

Special set meal is available too!

BEER BATTERED FISH & CHIPS (MYR 29)
Beer-battered fish and chips, served with freshly homemade tartar sauce. Seriously, I really love the dipping for that wow factor it reflects palatably.

Unlike other fish and chips, the same fare prepared here is not greasy at all, but particularly mouthwatering with the super crisp orange-brown crust on the outside while ensuring the fish remains tender underneath the golden coat.

As for homebaked slices, they are sold out from MYR 5 onwards each. How value for money is that!

MINT SLICE (MYR 5)
A rich, soft chocolaty base, with fresh mint leaves filling and semi-sweet chocolate icing. A decadent piece hard to resist by any mint fans out there!

Using fresh mints that Alison planted herself, it is then incorporated with icing sugar before sandwiched between a layer of Hershey semi-sweet choc on the top and wrapped up at the base with a sliced of deliciously baked dark chocolate, infused with some coconut. The texture that arises from the bottom base is rather fascinating as it gives out a unique nuance hovering between cakes and cookies. For me, it personally resembles a very moist chocolate brownie that is lovably not too sweet.

CUSTARD SQUARES (MYR 5)
A pure simple and fuss-free indulgence.
Velvet and mild milky custard cube sandwiched between two layers of ethereal puff pastry.

HOKEY POKEY (MYR 5)
An ice cream flavor originated from New Zealand!

Ice cream from Tip Top brand, the very original and first brand to introduce hokey pockey indulgence. It’s very smooth, toothsomely milky yet delicately light to the tastebud. I love how the plain vanilla ice cream is fused with small solid lumps of honeycomb toffee. Awesome!

The iconic stupendous coffee serving to the Kiwi- it’s actually quite a common scene back in the coffee-loving country.

LATTE BOWL (MYR 15/17/18)
Popular Kiwi caffeine fix which is ideal for sharing.

This cup of joe is interestingly served in the unique Kiwi way, a labyrinth of bold full-bodied blend with spicy fragrance of pepper and cinnamon and a lingering sensation of woody Sandalwood aroma, in a bowl consisting 4 shots of espresso!

It was of African-Sumatra blend that is brewed into a bowl of cappuccino base, added with chocolate and cinnamon, just the way how Alison love to enjoy it.

In a nutshell, the reposeful session is definitely a toothsome one with the elysian spread earnestly prepared fresh from kitchen using only the freshest ingredient without any preservatives which is indeed a commendable effort. A calming oasis outfitted with scrumptiously meal crafted from scratch with heart and soul, what else could you ask for? And now after the dining experience at Koru Café has even driven my desire more to hop over to New Zealand soon!

Prior to this café, Alison runs her own online bakery and is still currently doing so. I must say her masterpieces are really beautiful and convincing. So interested party-planner or anyone who wish to surprise his or her beloved friends, lovers or familiar, remember to drop by Alison’s pretty and memorable blogspot (= For more info, please click here.

What are you waiting for? To experience the soothing environment scrumptiously, head over to Koru Café soon and you’re bound to be delighted both visually and sensuously.
