SISTERS PLACE KOPITIAM @ PACIFIC PLACE, EVOLVE

Not often that I would be fixing my craving for Penang hawker food here in the metropolis of KL city apart from enjoying the yummy grubs at the homeland itself. Being a Penangite myself, it only seems natural if I have a higher expectation on the food, or at least on par with what we would actually taste in my homeland itself. After all the previous let down experiences, finally we have stumbled upon one humble ‘kopitiam’ that has given us a hopeful delight! And that is none other than Sisters Place Kopitiam located at the new commercial area of Evolve, near Ara Damansara.

Sisters Place Kopitiam has its first encouraging foray in USJ 16 Subang Jaya initially, before decided to widen its wings over here at Pacific Place. It was founded by Ray Cheng in 2009 with the kitchen mainly helmed by his lovely wife, Elaine before the first spin off at Evolve in August 2015.. And currently, the latest outlet expansion is managed by his son, Eugene- a Penang born cheerful chap who is determined to carry forth the quest of his mother for the best halal-friendly ‘char koey teow’.

Set out straightforwardly with a simple, spacious décor and airy environment, it devotes in serving up the real taste from Pearl of Orient, so to allow busy city workers of Klang Valley to be able to feast on those tasty Penang street foods amidst their hectic lives.

By convention, usually we, the folks from Penang, love to enjoy their food with coffee, regardless of what occasion; coffee seems to be the perfect, flawless companion. It could be in the form of the locals’ favourite Kopi O, Kopi Peng or sometimes home-boiled ‘leong cha’ (cooling tonic) too.

CHAM (MYR 3)
Essentially, it’s a beverage of coffee and tea mixture.

SISTERS SPECIAL CHAR KOAY TEOW (MYR 13.90)
Get ready to tantalize your taste bud with its signature seafood char koey teow with more prawns, cockles and even squid. Frankly speaking, this is one of the best Penang Char Koay Teow that I have tasted in KL, after another compelling candidate from 10 Years restaurant for the similar dish too.

It comes with the quintessential of unmistakably ‘wok hei’ that is a pre-requisite to any Char Koey Teow claimed to be of Penang region itself. This dish is really remarkable and taste so alike to those you usually revel in the heritage town albeit no pork is used here. Call it the real ‘kung fu’ from the seasoned chef? (=

Apart from these special ingredients, patrons also could savour this superb relish at only MYR 8.50 for normal serving. But I really think that the addition of squid has added another oomph to it, simply terrific! Thumbs up!

PENANG CURRY MEE (MYR 8.50)
Here comes another noteworthy bowl of the famous Penang Curry Mee!
The brothe is really sweet, which I believe must be the essence extracted from the long hours of boiling the prawn shells that renders such oceanic pleasantness. You can mix and match from mee hun (vermicelli), noodle and also koey teow (flat noodles) for different nuance.

PENANG HOKKIEN CHAR BIHUN MEE (MYR 8.50)
Contrary to what KL folks would normally have their Hokien Char, the original Penang version doesn’t comes in thick and roundish noodles with black sauce, but instead stir-fried fragrantly with vermicelli and noodles together with fishcakes, veggies, onions and others. It would be good if the gravy is slightly thicker for the extra punch.

SISTERS FRIED RICE (MYR 8.50)
An ubiquitous staple- fried rice to anyone especially those on the go or undecided what to order at any eatery. Guests can opt for more adds on such as squid, prawns, cockles, fishball, fishcake, wan tan (dumpling), shredded chicken and many more from MYR 1.50 onwards to turn this plate into a more bountiful enjoyment.

CURRY CHEE CHEONG FUN (MYR 8.50)
Slurpy chee cheong fun served with homemade curry chicken gravy. Chicken meat could be juicier and thankfully, it’s not too spicy. On top of that, lemongrass taste is rather evident in the curry soup, making it much more fragrant along with the sesame sprinkles.

Overall, the food has been really convincing and mouthwatering at a reasonable price. No wonder this shop has garnered a throng of loyal followers especially during peak hours. After all, comfort food is always the best bet to any weary souls. So remember to check them out today cause am already missing my char koey teow there and also the toothsome curry noodles too.
