CANTON KITCHEN 老招牌中餐馆 @ HAPPY GARDEN , KUCHAI LAMA

It was one Friday’s evening after work where craving for homey dishes started kicking in.

And that was when my partner in food crime suggested Canton Kitchen located at Happy Garden for some quick fix.

Initially upon hearing Happy Garden, I thought of the one at Bangsar area or the Happy Mansion in Petaling Jaya, only to realize sheepishly later it was actually situated near Kuchai Lama Vicinity, hehe. So they are actually all different places and now only I realize that there is indeed another ‘Happy’ place nearby Cheras (=

This founder of Oriental restaurant is said to be hailed from Bukit Tinggi and this well-established local restaurant have been serving traditional Chinese food since 1988 with the first inception as Foon Lock Restaurant.

With the objective to bring more ‘foon lok’ (joy) to every patrons who dines in, most of the dishes are dished up the homestyle way infused with a sense of homeliness.

Hokkien Fried Noodles

A mixed plate of fragrantly fried noodles- thick noodles and vermicelli to create a distinctive texture in a tad robust savoury dark sauce.

Trio Veggies

Touted one of the popular dish here- French beans, brinjals and okras all stir-fried together in a light smoky XO sauce style.

Guang Xi Stuffed Tau Pok with Minced Meat

Served in a soupy bowl, this dish of bouncy stuffed bean curds prove to be rather homey and convincing one, nicely served in a clear soup broth.

Stir-Fried 2 Veggies

As I enjoyed more of a plainly stir-fried greens without much heavy sauce, hence this plate balances up the meal, and it’s less oily compared to the Trio Veggies version.

And some home-boiled Yong Sam So drinks (American ginseng fiber - 洋参须) to cool off the hot weather of late, before we leave swiftly for another fast round of sweet indulgence- a 7-course-meal as one brilliantly and cheekily named, hehe.
