R.A.C.H.E.L SIEW SUET LI TRUST FUND(RSTF) | CHARITY FUND RAISING @ CORNERSTONES

Resilient in spite of the circumstances life has given her,
Adamant to carry on and cross the finish line year by year,
Courageous to live and love with a full heart in spite of fear,
Honest and true to herself about who she is, pure and clear,
Encouraging us to look above and forward, never down or rear,
Larger than adversity, leaving a mark in the lives of her peers…………………

That’s how the brave Rachel lies in other peoples’ eyes as portrayed by Samuel Lim, Year 2, Media, Culture & Communications Student from IACT, as part of the unified drive by BAC and IACT to help set up trust fund for Rachel Siew Suet Li- a courageous individual living with a rare disease so that she won’t have the fight the battle alone.

Now who is Rachel, you may ask.
As life is known to many of us that it’s just not a bed of roses for everyone, Rachel Siew Suet Li, is a unique individual who is battling for life. Rachel suffers from Mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS IVA) also known as Morquio Syndrome, a rare degenerative genetic disorder that affects her physically but not intellectually. She has weak fingers, wobbly joints and cannot hold anything heavier than a mobile phone.

Morquio Syndrome is a rare genetic disease in which the body cannot break down sugar chains called glycosaminoglycans that help build bone, cartilage, eye cornea, skin and connective tissue. As a result, these sugar chains collect in cells, blood and connective tissues and cause damage over time. Periodically, the patient is forced to undergo numerous corrective surgeries as the body develops with age, growth and its physiological limitations. Treatment for Rachel’s condition costs MYR 1.6 million per annum- for life……

Despite her struggles throughout life, Rachel has proved to be an inspiring young woman and has remained positive through all her ordeals. Her resilience and determination to live normal life saw her enroll for the UK Transfer Degree Programme- Law at Brickfields Asia College (BAC) at the end of which she transferred to the University of Hertfordshire for her final year in 2010 and completed it with flying colours. Feisty and full of life, Rachel is a popular young girl and well-liked by all walks of life.

On last 11th January 2017, Rachel has launched her trust fund called the Rachel Siew Suet Li Trust #RSTF in order to generate the much needed funds for her Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) at Cornerstones Ballroom, Wisma Selangor Dredging which is just opposite KLCC. Different kind-hearted souls attended the function and played their own part in making Rachel’s journey towards obtaining the ERT treatment a sooner and forthcoming one.

Hence, why not kick start and usher 2017 Chinese New Year in more meaningful way this year- how about saving a life?

Interested philanthropist and good samaritan who have missed the previous launch of #RSTF evening to gather fund for Rachel but would like to contribute can do so via donation at Alliance Bank (Rachel Siew Suet Li Trust Fund A/C @ 1414 900 1005 2019).

This event is a collaborative effort by IACT College and BAC and supported by The Make It Right movement, with venue sponsored by Cornerstone.
