SPEIGHT'S ALE HOUSE @ WANAKA
Soon after warming ourselves up
quickly at Wanaka View Hotel, we went for dinner at the recommended restaurant-
Wanaka Speight’s Ale House, which is
situated on Ardmore Street next to Bullock Creek and across the road from Lake
Wanaka.
The outdoor decks afford all day sun
with a picturesque view of the lake. Unfortunately, we were unable to
appreciate the beauty as we need to rush over to Lake Tekapo the very next day. So, evening shot would still be
quite rewarding, or so we thought…………
As a top Wanaka restaurant, the Speight’s Ale House offers a great range
of speciality beers, indoor, outdoor dining and a wide variety of gastromeals.
The Speight’s Ale House is operated by the owners and is very popular meeting
place for locals, holiday makers, skiers and tourists alike. That explains why
it’s crowded by the time we finally found it, after several attempts finding
the correct route that leads to this premises.
BEER
BATTERED ONION RINGS (NZD 10.90)
Light and
crispy onion rings toothsomely deep fried till golden brown and served with
aioli. Love these rings and can be a good alternative to my usual fave fries.
SHEARER’S
SHANKS (NZD 24.80)
Lamb shanks
slow-cooked in red wine and rosemary, served with creamy mash and salad or
vegetables.
The meat was
cooked till tender perfection, where it’s easily forked through effortlessly. I
for one not really a lamb fan, but this has gotten my tastebud hooked on;
thanks to its brilliant and tasty herb marinate that mellow down the gamey
taste, thumbs up! Besides that, the mashed potato was lovely and nicely done
with decent butter smoothness, together with its crisp veggies!
And the lamb
shank was recommended to pair with Speights Porter!
TAP BEER
(SMALL) SPEIGHT'S PORTER (NZD 6)
Thought of trying something
local- so beer it is!
Being the usual wine enthusiast
more often than not, this black beer was still pretty new to me- hence kinda
strong and only manage to finish may be a quarter of it? Call me amateur in
this case, haha......
This round, CFC couldn’t help me
with the food as he was still stuffed to the brink from earlier grubs at Ferburger,
where he literally finished up one and a half huge burger as I can’t manage it
myself, so…… thanks mate! Lol………….
And that concludes the day of another
achievement, after some brisk walk to help with the digestion. (=
Cheers for now and

journey continues....................
