TASMAN GLACIER @ MACKENZIE, NEW ZEALAND
Prior to first day arrival in Auckland, we had actually
booked a Glacier tour in advance from Glacier
Explorer to avoid full-booking should we make reservation after we
arrived at Hermitage Hotel.
Due to time constraint within our short stay in NZ, we
had chosen the package that fits us the best in terms of timing- 2pm guided
tour at NZD 155 per pax where it will depart from Hermitage Hotel lobby in fact.
Participants were required to check in at the
Activities Desk 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time via bus about 20
minutes short journey. Do take note that participants of the Glacier Explorers
trip need to walk about 1.5km in 20 minutes to ensure the trip can run to
schedule, as once alighted from the chauffeured bus, everyone would need to
have a light hiking up at the hillside in order to reach the glacier port where
the speed boats were parked.
After departing from Mount Cook Village outside The
Hermitage Hotel, the bus will take you on a pleasant trip to the Tasman Valley,
followed by a 20 minute alpine walk through the National Park. Then board your
MAC boat, and enjoy the ever changing face of the Tasman Glacier terminal lake
and its icebergs. Allow approximately 2.5 hours total per trip (60 minutes on
the lake).
As widely known, icebergs on the lake occur as a
result of glacial calving activity. This is a natural occurrence,
hence at times; the glacier is not as active- meaning the quantity and size of
icebergs on the lake vary. Icebergs, calvings and rollovers cannot
be guaranteed, but are a wonderful bonus for passengers that are lucky enough
to experience them.
Look at this enchantingly gigantic crystal diamonds! (=
We were told by the guide that the iceberg won’t melt
even it is lifted up and placed in the speedboat- now, could you imagine how
freaking cold the lovely place is? Imagine especially when the boat is speeding
during the tour, woosh! The air has never been so chillin’ pristine before it
seems……………
Both lips were tightened up and we were tad quivering,
hehe. Nevertheless, the moment could never be any way better! Simply bliss by
just hearing the stories and its histories shared by the tour guide while
touring around the glacier lake.
