TRAVEL | NEW ZEALAND DAY 5

SIR EDMUND HILLARY ALPINE CENTRE CAFÉ & BAR @ THE HERMITAGE HOTEL, TERRACE ROAD, AORAKI

Can’t be more anticipating down the excursion after exploring the many natural beauty of Mount Aoraki, majestically astounding Tasman Glaciers as well as glorious repast of Old Mountaineers Café & Bar at Mount Cook the day before.

Before dragging my feet to really, seriously, absolutely checking out from Hermitage Hotel, we went to its in house café for a quick breakfast which is beautifully illuminated by the warm, welcoming sunlight subtly streamed from the mountain! Yea, I really love this place very, very much and gonna miss it for sure.

So here we are, at the tranquil al fresco of SirEdmund Hillary Alpine Centre Café & Bar, that offers decent array of wholesome breakfast like muesli, sandwiches, muffins, coffees and et cetera. You name it, they got it!

SCENIC COASTAL DRIVE ALONG AORANGI HIGHWAY & TERRACE ROAD, AORAKI

Soon after we had enough (actually not real ^^) time enjoying our cuppa time and immersing in the warm sunrays from Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre Café & Bar overlooking the pristine stretch of Aoraki mountain, we though it’s about time lift our heavy butts up and get it going for next adventure- if we want to make it in time to catch the rest of the scenic view while the weather is still good to us. And so, we bid adieu to the lovely Hermitage Hotel (I’m still missing it very much even till now) and enroute along the Aorangi highway for the enchanting turquoise lake along the coast.

We actually made a few pit stops in between whenever we caught a glimpse of any beautiful spots, not knowing exactly where we were that time, but one thing for sure is- should we just let it pass by, we would definitely miss all those natural picturesque views! Before we realized, we had reached Glentanner Park!

YHA QUEENSTOWN @ NEW ZEALAND

After departing from Sir Edmund Hillary Cafe & Bar at Hermitage Hotel and catching some beautiful snapshots while cruising along Aorangi-Mt Cook Highway, passing by Glentanner, finally we reached our next staycation at YHA Queenstown Lakefront Backpackers, which is strategically located in the town and driving distance to nearby restaurants. Best of all, it’s overlooking Lake Wakatipu, just wish we have more time to spend longer here to check out the lakefront view during the brighter day time (But that seems not really ideally happening as we were too easily dumbfounded by the many scenic lookout points that we happened to chance upon while journeying the route earlier on, haha) Sorry peepz! (=

This hostel was a lovely place to experience the beauty and excitement of Queenstown as it’s only a 10-minutes’ walk into town or within 5 minutes driving range. (Unfortunately, Warm Pillow is always not so keen in strolling, lolz. Otherwise, I would prefer to slowly take a leisure walk towards the town while enjoying the chilling breeze, hehe)

The YHA Queenstown Lakefront hostel is a comfortable, fully equipped hostel for get a good night’s sleep, sitting right on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, offering enchanting views of the lake and remarkable mountain range. Yet, even though it’s in the centre of Queenstown, this backpackers is still remarkably peaceful and quiet for you to immerse in the tranquility, reflecting the wonderful excursion so far.

SKYLINE QUEENSTOWN @ NEW ZEALAND

Soon after a quick check-in to YHA Queenstown Lakefront Backpackers, we immediately drove out in hope to catch the last few gondola rides for the picturesque skyline of Queenstown from Queenstown Gondola located nearby at Brecon Street.

The world of Queenstown Skyline is touted as the home to the ultimate Gondola & Luge experience. Its attraction includes featuring a gondola to a panoramic restaurant or bar, Maori performances as well as a luge ride down.

In fact, the uphill ride actually also offers tranquil walking tracks, mountain biking trails, cultural experiences, adventure activities and great dining options, all with unsurpassed scenic views, besides the Gondola ride up. If only we could reach this place earlier, then we could have snapped some really stunning and breathtaking views from the mountain. Guess we would have to do with the evening scene for now, hehe.

Erik’s Fish & Chips @ Queenstown, New Zealand

Tummy definitely gnawing after some few hours’s rides uphill at Skyline Queenstown Gondola- I mean how not to when you need to withstand some 10°C or lower temperature after just some quick nosh from High Country Salmon earlier during the day? Hehe…

So here we are, seeking shelter for some warm and comfort food at Erik’s Fish and Chips!
It took us awhile before we finally located it at some corner from the main street along Fergburger, also one of our favourite spot for yummies!

Over here at Erik’s Fish and Chips, patrons could opt to dine in at their little but comfy container dining or takeaway, which is more commonly preferred by the locals here.

Erik’s fish and chips have a dedicated gluten-free kitchen, so it’s the perfect takeaway food for celiac diets. On top of that, they are nut-free, fish is freshly sought daily from Dunedin and most of its food is 100% dairy-free. Therefore, anyone could easily and safely enjoy the best takeaway fish and chips without worrying any food allergies and intolerances.

Erik serves up the traditional Kiwi favourites, like battered Blue Cod and Hoki, tasty calamari rings and of course the humble chips. For something a little different, I think we should have also tried their popular cauliflower bites, red onion wedges or also handmade hot dogs that have been crafted by Erik himself. If you’re feeling more adventurous, go wild with their deep fried kiwifruit or banana desserts. Why have I possibly missed it being the curious foodie of me? Then I guess perhaps that time the area was a little dim and we were starving, so just go with those savoury items listed on the top, hehe. Worry not, I shall keep that in mind the next time I’m back to NZ! (=
