THE LARGEST SHUCKED OYSTER FESTIVAL IS BACK!! THIS 3 - 5th APRIL@ SOUTHERN ROCK SEAFOOD, BANGSAR!

Ask any oyster fans, and they will eagerly rave about how mesmerizing the fresh seafood spread at Southern Rock Seafood is- especially their smorgasbord of oyster range, which also happens to be their signature that requires no further introduction! Most of the oysters are sourced mainly from Ireland, England and Australia, besides motley catch from France, Scotland, Holland as well as New Zealand, of which all depends on seasonality.
It’s not surprising the fact that Southern Rock Seafood is the largest suppliers for shucked oysters demand in Klang Valley, supplying to most of KL’s top restaurants and prominent hotels on top of their own operations at Bangsar HQ and a chain of SHUCKED Oyster and Seafood bars at B.I.G @Publika and Village Grocer supermarkets. They have also recently opened in the refurbished food court at KLCC making a total of 5 bars at The Gardens Mall, Village Grocer @ M-City and Ikano Power Centre.
And guess what? The much anticipated SHUCKED Oyster Festival is back!
This time is going to be a full weekend of fun, running from Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th April 2020 at Southern Rock Seafood in Bangsar. Guests will be delighted with a fine selection of the world’s best fish and shellfish, live music, drinks and speed shucking and competitions compared by comedic legend Jo Kam.
For the connoisseurs, dine with Jimmy Gallagher of Irish Premium Oysters and Choong the Cloudy Bay Wine ambassador to Malaysia at our Cloudy Bay Oyster Masterclass 7.30pm dinner on Friday 3rd April 2020.
As you enjoy the finest oysters the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans can produce, and the best of the worlds smoked salmon, wild-caught fish, mussels and Cloudy Bay clams, you can also grab a ringside spot at the semi-finals of our Malaysian Oyster Shucking Championships. Zeeshan, 2019 National SHUCKING champion, will be defending his title against a strong field who able to shuck 12 oysters in just 1 minute!
Our maestro Irish oyster grower, Jimmy Gallagher, will be on hand to judge the shucking (oyster opening) competition and talk about the pristine waters of Donegal.
On the entertainment side we are proud to welcome back Richard Sykes and Kaki Keltik beautiful traditional Irish music, Bruce Head and the Fisherman’s Blues Band.
Bringing suitably saucy fun to the SHUCKING surprises; JO Kam joins for the first time on Saturday night as well as excitedly welcome Funksters Indianapolis on Sunday.
The healthy omega-3 oils, iron and minerals in our world-class seafood ensure you will have a good dose of happiness- especially when you discover our fresh Atlantic Ocean oysters start at only MYR 5 per piece.
We started off the fête with its iconic stars before venturing further to its other signatures.
Oysters Irish Taster
Consists of Irish Premium, Tragheanna Bay and Gallagher Special
You just can’t go wrong especially with the plump texture of Gallagher Special that is grown in the wild and beautiful Donegal, that lures you over with its mellow sweetness.
Dainty Fruits De Mer Platter
A beautiful combo we have here:-
Scottish Gravlax, Smoked Ocean Trout Marinated Goat Cheese, Smoked Mackerel Paté on Toast and Marinated Mussel
Amongst all that particularly captivated my palate was the very well done gravlax or cured salmon, which was a very Swedish way of curing raw salmon in salt, sugar and dill. The recipe was brilliantly executed, rendering it an unique, springy texture that no one would actually guess it’s a salmon had we not been told, awesome!
Coming up next was another astounding retro treat that no one would reject- the classic Prawn Cocktail!
Each bites of the prawn was lightly coated with mayo and so satisfyingly springy and fresh that definitely would get you hooked on for more! Not to mention the portion was generously served too, thumbs up!
Really love this ‘savoury’ cocktail dearly!
Angel Hair Mussels
These very mouthwatering shellfishs are available in 3 flavours namely Legendary Laksa, Meuniere and Tomato Basil.
We have the saying of “Once bitten, twice shy”. But instead in this case, it’s more like an “Once tried, twice (or more) craved for more! Personally I enjoyed the Meuniere more.
Fish n’ Chips!
Fillet of fresh, flaky Barramundi deep fried till golden brown and served with hand cut chips alongside tartar dips, simple stellar!
And i love its home-prepared mashed peas too, yumzz!!
Salted Caramel Fudge Brownie
The Waihopai Valley Marborough Sauvignon Blanc 2019
Often touted as ‘hole in the water’ due to it being one of New Zealand’s sunniest and driest area. It’s these bright, cool climate conditions, the sauvignon blanc grapes have the advantage of long slow, ripening period.
Thanks Josh for hosting us such an excellent oceanic repast that was fun-filled with camaraderie shared around the table.
