ICHIKAKUYA 壱角家 @ THE PODIUM, UOA BUSINESS PARK, SHAH ALAM
Slurping silky Japanese ramen noodles
in flavourful broth definitely sounds inviting and I always enjoy them
especially if they also serve mouthwatering pork char siew. Japanese Char Siew
and Chinese Char Siew to me always have a very distinctive profile. Those who
know me often would already know my preference for leaner meat and so, will
always leave the whitish fat layer aside if I’m having the Oriental version.
However for the Japanese rendition, I’d tend to have it all. Reason being- the
fats are boiled for so long hours that it literally just melt in your mouth
that I unable to separate them in solid pieces, haha.
Anyway, decided to drop by this Yokohama Iekei Ramen Ichikakuya after
hearing good recommendations from my fellow foodie buddy. What distinguish this
ramen shop from the rest was its slightly intended-thicker noodles that bears
the original recipe from the province itself. They have the noodles housemade
to medium thick using exclusive wheat recipe from Japan.
Iekei ramen is originally from
Yokohama in Japan that is famous for its uniquely rich and flavourful tonkatsu
soy sauce soup alongside thick, chewy noodles.
Each bowl of piping hot ramen comes
with toppings like dried seaweed and spinach, on top of your choice of
customizing the bowl from noodle texture, broth intensity and chicken oil.
So….. itatakimas!!
Ajitama Ramen (MYR 20.50-Normal | MYR 24- Large)
I choose salt-based soup over soy
sauce broth and went for hard noodle textures.
Comes with soft-boiled egg, quail
egg, nori seaweed and roasted pork belly. There were also various spice and
seasoning for you to add on for flavour if you wish- chili flakes, sesame and
vinegared garlic.
Gyoza (MYR 12- 5pcs)
Japanese dumpling that was filled
with juicy minced pork meat and pan-fried till golden brown.
Karaage (MYR 12- 5pcs)
On a personal note, this had got to
be my favourite for its light crispiness of the succulent meat cutlet. It’s not
too oily but remained very juicy and flavourful instead. The portion was considerably
generous- looked at those big chunks! Oshii!
Overall, it’s been a delightful
session and would love to be back again. Wish they would have another outlet
nearer to KL or at least PJ, otherwise the trip to Shah Alam is tad far for me. But I still love my porky grubs anyway! (=
