Bird Nest Palace @ Damansara Perdana

Wow, there is indeed one unique shop that is not only dedicated to bird nest as its main product, but also versatile enough to implement some innovation into this competitive F&B industry. This special shop is none other than Bird Nest Palace, which is located primely in the town of Damansara Perdana.

The shop has a very rich oriental-themed interior design with moderate warm ambience setting. They even has an artificial manmade pond with some waterfall cascading over steep rocks nearby their kitchen area.

As you walk around the shop, you would several display of their quality bird nests, which we have tried in their white fungus red dates dessert. The string of bird nest is actually pretty rubbery and rock sugar is being used to enhance the flavor of the bird’s nest. Therefore, you might find some gelatin-like substance in the dessert due to the usage of sugar.

It’s a well-known fact that bird nest’s contains marvelous and lots of nutritional values that promotes the overall health. It’s particularly famous amongst the fairer sex for its youthful elixir properties :D

The bowl of treasures I believe to be have double-boiled in order to get a smooth texture while retaining all the gist within. It’s toothsome to the tastebud and not overly sweet. There are also red dates, ‘yuk chuk’  and white fungus to accompany besides the inhouse bird nest. It’s akin to drinking hearty tonic but this, being a more tasty one :D

Steamboat
Now let the ‘Makan’ time begins! Hehe

Here comes the steamboat fare. You may have two types of soup in your pot, with our case, being Tom Yam and Herbal varieties.

Apparently, our table seems to enjoy more of the herbal type. It’s clear soup with some fragrance of smooth herbal flavor. In comparison, the Tom Yam one is also quite savory and not too spicy, except that we will enjoy much more if they could have filtered out the leftover of those minced ingredients meant for tom yam soup flavoring. Otherwise, it would be quite some hassle to enjoy the food whilst separating each and every of the tiny bits of them.

Soon, our feast would begin after getting all the ingredients to be boiled in the pot.

Dishes for Steamboat

It’s always a pleasant sight, seeing all the food nicely laid in front of you, ready to be cooked and prepared the way each individual prefers.

The seafood looks fresh with the other springy meatballs, laid together on top of the cabbage bed. They are prawns, crabsticks, processed meatballs, enoki mushroom and many more. When all the ingredients are cooked in the big pot, the soup become more savory with the richness of the seafood flavor and also the sweetness of cabbage.  Best to pair the plainly-blanched Enoki mushroom with their special chillies sauce. Yummy!

Special Crabstick

Well, normally all the processed food like crabstick filaments looks normal to me, but not in this case, hehe. It seems like this ubiquitous far have been improved by them technically with some golden gems hidden in between.

The crabstick is especially tasty as it’s in house ‘enriched’. Apart from being chewy, it’s also very delicious with some hint of sweetness. When I ask the eatery owner what’s the extra ingredients, Joel say, ‘It’s secret’! Guess, gotta use your imagination then, haha.

Abalone Slices.

Wow! I must say that is definitely one of those golden bowl of steamboat, haha. The Abalone slices is actually very chewy and delicious. Sweet and full of oceanic flavor. Tangy as well for it’s freshly sliced and then dished out on the plate of lettuce. When cooked  together in the herbal soup, all the gist within, spread out in your mouth, slowly tickling your taste bud. Delish!

Lamb slices.

Another ala-carte plate is this lamb slices .The meat is thinly slicely so that it’ll cooked  very fast upon dipping into the hot pot of soup. This reminds me of Shabu-shabu where you just need to dip awhile in the hot soup and the thin meat is ready to go! The meat is bit sinewy and tangy, and of moderate goatish smell. Remember to have it with their inhouse relish as It helps compliment the meat. To the foodie who enjoy lamb dishes, this is good to go :D

Calamari Rings

This is a huge calamari rings, hehe. When the slices of them are laid out like the floral pattern, it’s such a nice visual to feast on :D  Ideally, the rings are to be cooked in the hot soup for about 7 seconds, according to Kong (our OR emcee for the day), for the best texture. But I guess most of us overdid it, haha. Anyway, it still taste decently great, apart that you don’t mind it to be tad hardened, but still go to go with the aromatic chillies sauce with soya. Oh, do remember to include lettuce in your diet for a healthier fare :D

Fish fare

One of the menu that I would always look for in every epicurean adventure is my favorite fish dishes :D Although am not too sure which species that this fish belongs to, but the meat does has a strong smell of earthy type. Perhaps from river source? No doubt, it’s fresh and with chunky delicious meat too. Best paired with the sour and spicy relish for better enjoyment.

Another would be this plate of very thinly sliced fish fare. It’s less earthy taste compared to the earlier one, but is equally nice and delicious. Yummy!

Meatballs with dried squids

Besides all the fresh catch, you may also enjoy the assorted processed products like bouncy meatball, seafood beandcurd, dried squid and many more. Those ingredients when boiled together do produce a very pleasant and inviting aroma. The sweetness of the soup has been absorbed into the meat and thus, making it very flavorful. The bigger fish balls are especially very addictive and it just kind of pops in your mouth. Yummy!!

Yee Mee & Vermicelli

What’s the best way to a great end of a steamboat feast, if not completing it with some carbo food like yee mee and vermicelli? Hehe. Trust me, at the end of all the boiled and braised fresh ingredients in the soup, they have effectively sweetened the soup base in the awesome way! So, when you add in those plain noodles in it and cooked for a while, in no time, you would have a plate of scrumptious meal in a stock so rich in taste. The soup itself is very aromatic with the savoury yee mee, and not  forgetting the delicate beaten egg that is added along too. Give your tummy another round for this perfect round up! :D
