Tokyo Pastry @ Avenue K

Decked out with quaint embellishments and a huge gleaming chandelier, Tokyo Pastry could be the closest thing to a Japanese-European style of dining in the heart of Golden Triangle, Avenue K, which has just recently undergone a facelift.

No wonder this barely 3 months’s old patisserie, has been chosen as the production venue for the romantic comedy series of Mr.Bun, if you recalled, in conjunction with 8TV’s 10th anniversary celebration. Now that this bakery has been thrown into the limelight, that suffice to explain the throng of crowds often seen.

The cafe offers urbanites a cozy atmosphere against a voguish wooden setting, together with versatile vintage ornaments such as those antique bric-a-bracs, that instantly arouses estheticism in me!

Or if you prefer a more casual seating, then you could opt the seating at its alcove deck.

Scallop Salad (MYR 15) makes the foremost teaser, ensued by Kani Avocado Salad (MYR 13). Both make a great hors d'oeuvre.

Scallop Salad
Succulent quick-seared scallop with a bouquet of fresh garden mix perfumed with aromatic house dressing.
Love the juicy bites of chewy scallops, sweet and fresh, which further accentuated by the piquant relish of diced mango and bird’s eye chillies.

Kani Avocado Salad
Snow crab leg tossed with Japanese sesame dressing, topped with avocado and tobiko.

This oceanic plate reminds me of the salubrious Kani Salad from Takumi, that is also very appetizing indeed. A simple salad is nourishingly enhanced with dulcet laces of Kani crabmeat, alongside with goodish avocado slices, drizzled with aromatic goma sauce. The avocado fruit is still tad green, so if you are not fussy over crunchier bites, that should be fine.

Soon Salmon Chowder (MYR 10) and Hearty Mushroom Soup (MYR 10) join us.
Homemade soups are generously made affordable here with the much needed wholesomeness, coupled with the aromatically toasted garlic baguettes.

Salmon Chowder
One of its kinds where fish lovers get to satisfy the ocean craving in just one bowl; bites of salmon swimming freely in the rich creamy soup, complemented with diced carrots and celery.

Hearty Mushroom Soup
A must have in any Western cultural dining; fresh mushrooms cooked to perfection with porcini oil to ensure flavourful mushroom goodness in every sip. A pretty humbly done cross-over, does it remind you of tonkatsu broth by the way? (=

Eventually the main courses greet the anticipating gourmands.

Tokyo Burger (MYR 15)
Grilled chicken with seared onion and kyuri (Japanese cucumber), sandwiched with matcha bun and glazed with teriyaki sauce.

Love the unpretentious green tea bun especially! It is very light and fluffy, comes with tinge of subtle sweetness, that pairs really well with the tender chicken meat in savory sauce.

Pan Seared Chicken (MYR 19)
Seared chicken with truffle sauce, served with herby roasted baby potatoes.
Chunky meat is delectably satisfying, with zesty relish of peach cubes, topped off with wilted sweet red capsicums. Also the baby potatoes is ideally grilled with smidgens of sour plum powder, that spice up the dish overall.

Kikkoman Salmon (MYR 23)
Pan seared salmon smothered with Kikkoman Sauce.
This Japanese soya sauce is quite unique as compared to conventional Chinese soya sauce. It has the rich aroma of wheat that flaunts the full-bodied soya sauce flavour which further stimulates the appetite.

The fish fillet is munificently serve to please your every sense, unostentatiously dished up with lightly roasted cubes of carrots, kyuri and baby potatoes.  Every bites of salmon is voluptuous, despite the fact that I would love it slightly charred done. Nonetheless, it still able to pull through with the dainty garnishment of lotus root and arugula at price that is blessedly not as punishing as feared.

Prawn and Baby Octopus Spaghetti (MYR 19)
Fresh sautéed prawns and baby octopus in tomato basil spaghetti sauce.

The morsel of prawns and Iidakos are very livelily textured, palatably paired with the red basil sauce.

Veggie Mushroom (MYR 13)
Sautéed button mushrooms on a toasted croissant, served with fries.

The crescent roll is actually very downy and pleasant to the palate, rich in buttery taste that inevitably goes well with the sautéed white button mushrooms. Vegan folks would find it enjoyably too.

Ah ha! The long awaited moment has come! Dessert time!
(#shoutout from any ladies ^_^  )

Yamaimo
Taste the fresh velvety yam goodness in this yam confectionery.

Choco Mousse Tart
A solid yet crunchy tart base that houses the rich and moist chocolatey mousse, covered with a thin layer of chocolate ganache, gently melts in your mouth. It could be tad sweet for some, but undeniably gratifying.

Bamboo Charcoal Crepe (MYR 9.90)
This black beauty has a light and refreshing taste. Best of all, it has detox and other health benefits.

Matcha-Misu (MYR 10)
It’s a Matcha Tiramisu with delightful combination of green tea and mascarpone cream, layered alternately with coffee-soaked sponge cake.

I am an ardent fan of green tea, who personally enjoys a much moister matcha delight. For a menu that is still undergoing expansion, there might be both hits and misses which are still acceptable. Nonetheless, it doesn’t dampen my tea indulgence :)

Matcha Red Bean Crepe
Rich green tea nosh that accented by creamy and milky homemade matcha ice cream, sprinkled with sweet, pulpy Azuki with cutesy mochi!

Loving it dearly!   (✿◠‿◠)

To double the thrills of green tea awesomeness, we are treated with…….

Iced Blended Matcha (MYR 10)

Iced Blended Oreo (MYR 10)

Iced Mint Latte (MYR 10)

Reminds you of foamy booze? Oh no no no.............  xoxo

Iced Honey Lemon (MYR 7)

Rasberry Lychee Soda (MYR 8)

…………and my favourite obligatory cuppa, Café Latte (MYR 8).

A nicely brewed cup from Nuova Simonelli using Lavazza Lavazza coffee beans, slicked up with an endearing LOVE latte art, to accompany my mollycoddling desserts ( =

Aren't they just adorable?  = )

Overall, Tokyo Pastry has done a great job in whipping up delish Japanese métiers that draws inspiration from European style bakery during the Meiji Restoration era. Sparks of creativity should be able to help this bakery remain afloat in KL's sea of patisserie cafe. I love the matchas and surely looking for another return, but um, by that time, could I expect Match Latte is in the menu?  (=^ㅅ^=)

Once again, thanks for the genial hospitality of James and Jessica in taking the effort to turn our review and sharing session into a ‘foodful’ ones. Arigato gozaimas and sugoine!
