LWIN LEE | DUKES & DUCHESS KL @ TTDI

Hey boys and girls, it’s party time!!

But hey, isn’t it tad too early to kick start the fete without a hearty and scrumptious feast first? (=

Having been established since 2 ½ years ago, Dukes& Duchess KL is making wave at one of the prime area in town;  Taman Tun Dr. Ismail  (TTDI).  Bet this dernier cri set up is no stranger to most of the KL-nites here, if not, expatriates alike. Just like its namesake, this voguish brasserie is well-known amongst modish chivalrous and elegant souls, especially those in the modelling scene.  So, it’s not surprise to bump into any public figures (even Alex Yoong, who was there too ^^), sharing some light camaraderie alongside fantastic grubs too.

A rather subdued ambience donned in a multifaceted decor with an air of opulence, greets you as you walk in the buzz gastropub, enlivened up by a dangling posh chandelier at one nook.

During this review session,  our palate are tantalized by a myriad of fusion incorporated in its Bar & Grill menu, passionately crafted by Chef Don Theseira.

With over 35 years of experience in this industry under his belt, he have had a fair share of diversified cuisines creations gained from his vast travelling , which includes a substantial amount of time spent in Australia after Singapore, cooking up an exquisite array of Italian dishes for VIP clientele. Chef Don, who hails from Malacca, is of Malacca Portuguese descent, and that explains some infusion of signature Portugese-Eurasian menu in the D &D‘s bills of fares as well.

First and foremost to greet us is the Roasted Mushroom Soup as appetizer, followed by a medley of sumptuous and  palate-pleasing dishes, plates after plates before rounded up the à la mode way, as the convention has it.

Roasted Mushroom Soup (MYR 15)
Roasted button mushrooms blended  and braised, garnished  with parsley and cream, served with a slice of garlic bread.

Comes with mild tartness from the drizzled cream I suppose. Very aromatic and authentic indeed. Nothing beats a bowl of wild mushroom soup!

Mutton Dry Curry (MYR 18)
Mutton cubes dry curry served in claypot with fish cracker. Go well with both bread or white rice and mango pickle.

The mutton is good and tender without much musky smell. Well-cooked that renders an sprightly chew.

Rendang Claypot (MYR 18)
Beef cubes or chicken thigh rending served in claypot with fish crackers and your choice of bread or white rice and mango pickle.

Devil's Curry (MYR 16)
This is chicken thigh curry debal version is of lower SHU to suit the taste of the local taste buds. Although slightly toned down, spicy aroma is still very much apparent- the fact that spice is one inseparable component from our Kristang’s cuisine culturally.

Chili Padi Chicken (MYR 16)
Chicken thigh cooked with herbs, spices and chili padi, served in claypot.

Appeals to foodies that have a yen for spicy food. Interestingly comes with a blend of herbs that gives out a rather unique peppery taste.

Crispy Pork Knuckle (MYR 88; 2-pax sharing)
1.3kg imported knuckle marinated over 24 hours, served with grilled bacon, mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables and brown sauce.

Plenteous slab of tender pork knuckles meat, sited comfortably on a bed of mashed potato (it would be better if it is buttered with some herbs to fix the otherwise rather bland mush) and nicely cut for diner’s convenience, flooded atop with bounteous grilled bacons but that you just simply can’t resist!

Looking at this portion, I think it can easily fit up to 4 tummies!

Malaccan Portuguese Spicy Noodles (MYR 14)
Yellow noodles fried with pork, chicken or seafood, served with fish crackers.

Australian Sticky Pork Ribs (MYR 42/ Half slab- 500g)
Succulent pork marinated over 24 hours in D&D’s special blend, grilled to perfection, served with mashed potatoes, corn, grilled vegetables and your choice of BBQ, black pepper or mushroom sauce on the side.

Silence of the Lamb (MYR 30)
300g grilled lamb shoulder served with fries, grilled vegetables and homemade black pepper and mint sauce.

Spaghetti Carbonara with Bacon (MYR 24)
Spaghetti in cream based sauce addictive bacon strips. Slurps!

Grilled Chicken Chop (MYR 26)
Grilled chicken thigh with fries and roasted vegetables, served with your choice of BBQ, black pepper or mushroom sauce.

Grilled Pork Chop (MYR 30)
Pork chop marinated in a blend of lemongrass, ginger and garlic, grilled to perfection, topped with bacon and served with roasted veggies with your choice of BBQ, black pepper or mushroom sauce on the side.

Nachos Chili Con Carne (MYR 25)
Crispy nachos drenched in Chef Don’s homemade chili corn carne, topped with melted mozzarella cheese and jalapenos.

My favourite amongst all! Just love the special milky yet light dipping; a combination of goat cheese and cream, that spices up the whole snack effortlessly! Double thumbs up!

Spicy Bacon Pizza. (MYR 28)
Tomato based sauce on thin crust, topped with spicy pork bacon, capsicum, olives and cheese.

Now comes to the much celebrated cake served à la mode; signature lava-flowing dessert = )

Molten Lava Cake (MYR 16)
Homemade cake with flowing chocolate served with ice creams and strawberries.  The berries are delightfully sweet and juicy!
