LWIN LEE | PURPLE PASTA Restaurant & Café @ OASIS SQUARE
If you are familiar with the locale of Oasis Square Ara Damansara,
your attentions are bound to be seized by this huge board of MYR 5 pasta (no
joke) and boldly printed purple signage, Purple
Pasta cafe!
Located at the similar premises as Epiphany previously, Purple Pasta Restaurant & Café has
indeed transformed the place to be a more vibrant oasis gastronomically with a
hearty potpourri of mouthwatering offerings to whet your discerning palate. Affordable
fine dining quality cartes such as pasta, poultry and seafood could be anticipated,
alongside its third wave coffee- medium roast house blend.
Jay, the restaurant
manager, is currently manning the café with a team gleeful and committed people,
who aims to draw a bead on creating an array of affordable delish fusion, hovering
between French, Italian and Scandinavian, all within the niche of modern
European fare with some inspiration drawing from exquisite molecular gastronomy- one of my captivating epicurean topic too!
Much thanks to his inspiring sharing that has largely enlightened me in this
field and you can expect some interesting plates that ensue later in this
review session.
As the convention has it, we are each thoughtfully presented
with individual sampling plates so that we could taste each creation distinctively,
appreciating the taste and efforts behind it together with our genuine feedback.
Efficiently and sleekly executed.
The session kicked off with awesome selections of LUNCH MENU (MYR 5)- including pasta and
salad. No joke, it’s one of the best deal in town!
GARDEN SALAD
A zesty plate of lettuce, cherry tomatoes and crispy bread crumbs,
drenched in Japanese mayo and tangy balsamic vinegar reduction.
LAMB MARINARA
A toothsome recipe made unconventionally delectable with
housemade meat ball in marinara sauce. Unlike mainstream marinara dish that is usually
dominated by seafood ingredients, this pairing comes pleasantly refreshing and
juicy in the sweetness of the inhouse own red sauce. Good one!
AUTHENTIC CARBONARA
A special and interesting deviation from the ubiquitous
carbonara by far. Not any trace of white cream is visible!
Spaghetti that has been cooked al dente, are then tossed with
egg yolk till each spaghettini is evenly enwrapped while still hot, so to
present a silky adhering texture on it, before topped off with poached egg. Smooth
and surprisingly addictive with its slight pepperiness!
Now comes to the intriguing introduction of a new way of gustatory
appreciation.
For this smorgasbord dinner full course, customers are the
one who will decide the price- value that deemed meritedly to their heart. Certainly
an unorthodox way of evaluating food boldly and this really deserves salute as
effort of great virtue. This is the time where versatile surprisal comes in.
DINNER (PRICE
DETERMINED BY CUSTOMERS)
** Only available on
Friday and Saturday night
FRA DIAVOLA MUTTON
Another noteworthy inventive dish, using Italian-American
spicy sauce, that blends in so well with the tender mutton meat. The gravy is
lovely and flavourful with subtle hint of dark chocolate too, surprise? (=
SALMON TARTARE
Comes delightfully refreshing with its own cure salmon melding
with fragrant pear cubes, coated with ebiko-mayo, lightly torched mayonnaise
and a dash of dill chiffonade. A fantastic twinning indeed.
PRAWN CEVICHE
An acidic dish of Tiger Prawn, served
atop of Brussels sprouts, onions and purple cabbage.
This natural way of preserving the
actual food taste without involving any cooking, has rendered the meat to be
appetizingly citrusy and crisp texture. Nonetheless, it is still regarded by
some as acquired taste kinda chuck, but I personally find myself relishing in
it albeit the fact that am still a novice when comes to sashimi enjoyment :)
PRAWN THERMIDOR
Seeing this familiar seafood rendition instantly reminded me
of the fantastic fare at Mezze and Takumi review. Love the
juicy and bouncy bites of this crustacean meat that is cooked with white wine to
amuse your taste bud.
POACHED CHICKEN AND
SMOKED DUCK IN BROWN SAUCE
Slices of chicken breast are soaked in earl grey tea to help with the visual as well as taste marination before garnished with arugula, alfalfa sprouts and turnips, atop a bed of velvet mashed potatoes.

Eventually, time for some beverages and coffee making their cameo
appearance.
Started off with ……………………….
Chilled Cappucino
(MYR 11)
Comes with more foam as it has been shakened in the familiar
cocktail shaker, before enamored with sparkling Violet Sugar.
Key Lime Soda
(MYR 10)
…………… and the daintiest goes to...............
Thrice Sugar Latte!
This crystallized sugar lends some floral touch and violet-scented
aroma to the coffee. It’s not too sweet and makes a good substitute to the
common sugar in our average cup of Joe.
Unexpectedly discovered yet another special and recherché cuppa over here at Purple Pasta as far as coffee is concerned. The previous adventure has brought us to the existence of Bamboo Salt Latte at OLLE CAFE – 쿠알라룸푸르 .
Frankly speaking, am more in favour of this gourmet-enhanced
café compare to its former establishment of solely coffee-dessert place. Over here
at Purple Pasta, you get to indulge sensuously
with imaginative rendition that are liberally experienced and improved along
the way by the passionate crew. As this café is still a new kid-next-door, some
fine tuning is underway to smoothen any hit-and-miss challenge in providing
diners with a scrumptious and deserving feast. Me for one, are already looking
forward to another return for the chef’s always excitingly crafting innovative dishes!
Do check out this eatery whenever you are in the vicinity,
especially the “purple diamond powder”! (✿◠‿◠)

Got attracted by the purple sugar and I clicked in. All these foods look great. Will put this cafe in my list to try next time. However is the meal filling enough? Since it's like French cuisine I expect it to be in small portion. haha

Hey Janice,
DeleteYea, same here. Was rather intrigued by the violet sugar too, but let's not neglect the deserving food either, lolz.
The pasta at MYR 5 is definitely a steal, considering a decent portion, and i wouldn't mind having 2 plates of different flavours, haha ** sounds glutton of me :) As for the new creations, yea, they are dantily plated kind of fine dining fusion, but should live up to a hearty affair when pairing with the rest. ^^
Awww love love love the decor! I like to see cafes or restaurants where the owners actually bothered to make it look like a place you'd want to sit down and eat... rather than a "concept canteen" haha ^^
ReplyDeleteThe presentation is great for that price range, I like how that there's actual real effort being put into these dishes. Like £1 fine dining! (I never thought I could ever say that in my life haha)
Love love love the violet sugar! I would so love a jar of that in my kitchen! haha ^^
Thanks so much for the review, I'll be sure to check this out ASAP!
xoxo Rin
