LWIN LEE | B.BAP KOREAN BISTRO @ AVENUE K SHOPPING MALL

Finally, I get to indulge in my all-time favorite Korean cuisine again, after rounds and rounds of intermittent Ramadhan reviews of late.

This time, we gonna feast on a modern-chic Jeongshik at the casual and lively vibes of Hallyu, over here at B.Bap Korean Bistro, at its Avenue K outlet.

Embarked on a simplistic yet rustic wooden theme as reflected by its furniture setting, patrons could opt to dine in within an air-conditioned environment or the adjacent al fresco area at the front.

The graphics imprint on the menu somehow got the better of me, hence, started to glance through patiently, as if doing some visual analysis, haha. Well, those photos are helpful afterall, as we are well-informed what kind of dishes to be anticipated, especially for those who is still a novice to Korean cuisine.

Let’s first warm up the tummy with some soothing tea before we go full-fledged about what menu to expect from this quaint Korean establishment. I was told that most of the food and sauces used are QC by a Korean Mama (An experienced Korean lady cook) at the central kitchen before the produce is distributed fresh to the respective outlets, with one located at Nu Sentral too.

BROWN RICE GREEN TEA (MYR 4.50)

CARAMELIZED TTEOKBOKKI (MYR 16)
Korean rice cakes in skewers, glazed with honey caramel sauce.

Great snacks to get you into the Korean affair mood. The rice cake that has been lightly grilled and glazed with some honey seems to be an appealing nosh. Suggest to consume them while hot, else it’ll get tad hardened.

DOLSOT BIBIMBAP OCTOPUS (MYR 25)
This stone-pot rice is a must whenever I drop by any Korean restaurants, for it’s essentially the best fundamental dish to help in your verdict on their food. Glad that it doesn’t disappoint and the octopus cutlets are pleasantly chewy with the saporous gochujang.

SEAFOOD KIMCHI PASTA (MYR 28)
Stir-fried spaghetti with fermented kimchi, onions, prawns and squid

Rather than the mundane westernized red sauce, kimchi is used as the substitute here, despite the fact that the dish would be better if the Kimchi taste is stronger- tribute to its given name too (=

YANG MYEON CHICKEN WINGS (MYR 22)
Chicken wings and sweet potato deep fried to perfection and tossed with sweet and spicy sauce

Sweet and savoury but not as fiery spicy as it might mistakenly projected. The relish was an inhouse creation, so when marinated with the meats, it helps to inject a balanced flavor as a whole.

SOON DUBU JJIGAE SEAFOOD (MYR 21)
Spicy hot soft tofu soup with vegetables, onions, scallions, seafood and a raw egg.

A wholesome bowl of bean curd soup cooked the Korean way to temporarily level down the meaty session.

SAM GYE TANG (MYR 35)
A savoury Korean ginseng soup made of chicken drumstick, gingko, jujube, chestnuts and served with fresh ginseng slices

Another quintessential signatures from Korean, Ginseng Chicken Soup. It’s nice, flavourfully boiled with chicken meat till tender. Only one thing is missing here- the glutinous rice which is traditionally stuffed into the whole chicken cavity and boiled till the essence is all exuded, like the one I had in Korea or say the nearest Carpe Diem, located at Empire Damansara. Nevertheless, the soup is stil palatable, sharing close resemblance or our Chinese Chicken Herb Soup.

BBQ BEEF STEAK (MYR 32)
Australian beef steak marinated in bulgogi sauce and grilled to perfection

Wow, I must say this dish exceed my expectation. The slices of meat is not only juicy and succulent, but thoroughly coated with the special inhouse sauce, hence creating a very delicious nuance to the taste bud. Highly recommended.

MACKEREL JEONGSIK (MYR 27)
A traditional Korean dish-pan-fried fish served with assorted side dishes, soup and rice

Always my all-time favorite, saba fish grilled with shio. As long as the seafood is fresh, it doesn’t need any additional flavorings to make it tastier, just some light sprinkle of salt will do and the resulting piece is just heaven!

Eventually, time to cool down the body from the hearty feast with some desserts. Apparently, this is one category that I seldom go without (=

BINGSU BERRYLICIOUS (MYR 20)
Colorful shaved ice comes with variety if fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, kiwi – crunchy and chewy bites, served with vanilla ice creams

A medium-large bowl filled up with coarsely shaved ice and topped off with assorted fruits like kiwi, strawberries, blueberries etc. Rather normal to me as I find those ices bit bland in taste. Not sure if it’s due to the not-so proportionate syrup drizzle.

HEARTY BERRY TOAST (MYR 16)
A lovely decorated toast with heart-shaped strawberries and honey butter flavor, served with ice cream or whipping cream

Luckily this warm toast helps to make it up for the former bingsu dessert. Fluffy and soft thick loaf toasted with some light buttery spread, together with some strawberries and whipping cream to spice it up.

If you ever drop by, do remember to try out the BBQ Beef Steak as they are not like conventionally dished out like a fillet but pull it off fantastically with its luscious slices. Oh, yummy yummy to the last bite, mashishoyo!

Cheers for now and Carpe Diem!  ❤ℒѵ
