LWIN LEE | RUYI & LYN @ BANGSAR SHOPPING CENTRE
Guess not
much introduction is needed to further introduce this unique restaurant once
you sight it as Ruyi & Lyn,
which has taken the recent food scene whimsically abuzz with its amazing and tastefully
packed morsels in one of the innovative creations so far, coalescing several
cultural assimilation at once! Don’t quite buy me? Then do scroll down further and
explore if you do see eye to eye with me too (=
Even the menu is also designed such a way that it is easily readable even at dimmed lighting. Cool! |
If you have been
following my blog, you might realize that Asian or rather Oriental cuisine
rarely pops up in my write up; partly due to other versatile culinary
invitation that got me distracted for awhile with its exciting dining scene and
the thought that I’ve been growing up long enough to see most of the Chinese
fares. Well, this chapter of epicurean discovery at Ruyi & Lyn, seems to
have proven me wrong and indeed, the time-honoured cuisine has taken a steeper
paradigm shift that is utterly mind-boggling as presented in its zealous panaches
of cross-assimilated Asian fusion flairs.
The restaurant
oozes with a galactic charm the moment one steps in from its voguish lounge
equipped with dim lightings and artistic ornaments. You would be first greeted
by the huge automatic sliding glass which is fitted with blue neon before
actually entering into the majestic dining all.
Besides the main entrées, make
sure to watch out for the list of tapas specially catered for the light bites at
the lounge, to be paired with your favourite vino or some swig of nips. Cigars
room is also located at the same floor too.
We were thrilled and honoured at the same time to be able to sample MIGF 2015 Galactica ChefJames’s creation that evening.
Chef James, a
truly humble and imaginative maestro behind the kitchen- is one true Malaysian
at heart. He who has been creating names and fruitful career globally that has
taken him from China, Korea, Japanese to the recent one at Bangkok’s famous Sky
Bar, Chef James still feels that there is no other place better than own home.
Thus, decided to back to his motherland- Malaysia, introducing a tantalizing
revolutionized recipes that surely leaves you with a vivid impression
tastefully.
Chef James
brings with him a very enticing repertoire of Chinese fusion dishes that is
truly amazing and imaginative.
Nice ambiance illuminating the hall by the dangling light bulbs with adjustable height too! |
Appetizers were
first to arrive, surprising our taste buds with the unconventional selections
of pickled bites- vinegarish lotus root which were very crunchy and
sweetness-centric cherry tomatoes.
Apart
from the tangy starters, a small tray of 5 relishes (Red Vinegar, Hoi Sin, Green Ginger,
Yellow Pepper and Chili Garlic) was also brought
to our table. It consisted of house special dipping for diners to 'season to
taste' with any dishes to their individual preference.
RUYI SUSHI PLATTER
The nation’s
smallest combination of Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak and Mango Sticky
Rice.
The Hainanese
Chicken Rice was lip-smaking good with the uber fragrance from the steamed
poultry that immediately exudes upon popping it into the mouth. Not only it’s
tender and succulent, it makes a pretty decent portion comparatively to its companions.
The cutesy Nasi
Lemak and Mango Sticky Rice are a joy to both visual and palates. Each morsel
was fully-packed with its quintessential taste and signature gustative discernment
respectively. Indeed our very adorable miniature sushi that are so close to our
heart!
SMOKED LITTLE DUCK CONES
Succulent
potpourri of smoked duck, sweet corn, pine nuts and edamame.
These fragrant
nosh beckons as the aroma wafted through the air, and we succumbed to its call,
gladly. Those pine nuts that had been roasted earlier took the centre stage
with its unmistakable fragrance that unfeignedly recognized as the wow factor for
this dish.
Personally found
it very light and toothsomely entertaining, that went so well on its own even
without any sauce. Both my dining companion and I raved about the vibrantly
seasoned and spiced up crispy crunch that literally got us hooked on for more!
If that’s the
hallmark of what’s to come, we’re just too excited and can’t wait for more!
UNICORN’S BAIT
Fresh abalone
with clear spicy soup.
Canadian scallop
and Australian abalone with enoki and Yau Char Kway!
Yes, am not pulling
your leg but pleasantly surprised as well! The Chinese cruller remained crispy
even though having soaked in the soup for awhile, wow!
The soup which
came with a sharp tartness, had been thoroughly double-boiled for 4-6 hours before
coming up with such a clear and nutritious bowl. Broth was light but yet rich
in flavor. Slices of abalone and
scallops were super fresh and that's probably why it tasted a lot interestingly
better than the seafood soup that I've had in the past.
CHAMPAGNE SNOWFISH FLOWER
Snowfish
artistically deep fried with Moet Champagne Sauce under the adept hands of Chef
James, garnished with lemon and tomato sauce at the side.
Fragrant and
flavourful, hot off the wok, the meat from the fish was very juicy, bouncy and already
good on its own. I enjoyed it pretty much that way- the purist or you could
choose to drizzle with some champagne sauce. Otherwise, if you were to pair a
chunk of the fish meat with inhouse sweet and sour relish, it literally makes
one of the wonderful Chinese cuisines loveably.
The sweet and
sour sauce actually went so well with the fish that is so soft and tasty. The
meat was very decent and well fried till golden delicious. With fish that is
fresh, simple preparation with the simplest seasoning is the best way to go!
After devouring
the luscious fish meat, I bid adieu to the cod to sail on to the next continents.
Fans of seafood
would be delighted to set sight on the fascinating Japanese-infused treat from
the ocean.
ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS
Scallops and
prawns, steamed with homemade noodles in Hunan sauce.
Surprises didn’t
end there as you are bound to find your chawanmushi (Japanese steamed egg)
gracefully hidden underneath the savoury sauce. It’s very silkily done
ethereally. Here, diners were also titillated with large ruddy prawns sealed
atop by succulent scallops that were seated comfortably on the bed of noodles.
1 MALAYSIA SUSHI PLATTER
The centerpiece
at Ruyi & Lyn is none other than this perfect identity resemblance of the
multi-racial community of Malaysia, spanning harmoniously from its respective
symbolic flavours- Papadum with Mango Puree and Onion, Roti Canai with Spiced
Yellow Glutinous Rice, Nasi Lemak and Hainanese Chicken Rice.
A simple, straightforward portrayal of Malaysian who unites together despite coming from various races, religions, cultures and believes.
Yeah, soon it’s
dessert time!
CHOCOLATE EMBRACE
Warm chocolate
with parfait, that’s how these little sweetie gonna wows you over with its
warmth mouthwateringly.
Served alongside
with macerated berries and biscuit crumbles, the delicate 72% cocoa filling
oozed out decadently upon slicing in, rendering this recherché nosh a
must-have, as it’s light, not
overwhelmed by sweetness and yet rich in sapidity. Yummmm………
SUMMER BREEZE
Refreshing
yogurt in cucumber sorbet.
Certainly a
refreshing creation from this contemporary restaurant- homemade yogurt infused
with cooling cucumber and also home-roasted biscuit crumbles. I love how the
milkiness and velvety from the yogurt blended in so well with the zestful juice
of the cuke- it’s just divine!
Through this
particular gastronomy evening have had me really opened up my mind further and
widened up my horizon as far as gustation is of concerned. Prices might be
slightly tidier, but reasonably justified by the quality of premium ingredients
that are used.
Guests could also make reservation request to hold private occasion such as this 80th birthday celebration of one happiest daddy in the world.
Lively and
serenading tunes were played throughout the feasting hours, belting out popular
songs, keeping the mood festive and joyous! The hall would be transformed into
a dance floor where lights would be dimmed and funky tracks would be spin by DJ
of the house!
There are 4 VIP rooms that are stylishly decorated that just would keep you spell-bound.
Impressive glass-designed walls with crystal clear reflection! |
Enjoying your dinner and privacy while keeping abreast of what's happening at the hall downstairs with just a simple glance through the transparent glass wall |
So don’t miss out this specialist in contemporary fusion dining
and remember to check out the chic booze
parlor which is simply great for hangouts, gatherings or casual catch up with
business acquaintances. Do watch out for more signatures dishes from
Chef James soon!
