LWIN LEE | ZAZEN BAR & DINING @ TTDI, KUALA LUMPUR

A simple yet unassuming establishment that nestled quaintly at the brisk neighbourhood of TTDI, offering a delectable choice of Japanese yakitori besides an impressive myriad of liquors- good news to those of you who are also whisky aficionados particularly! ^^

Welcome to the NIKKA family, hehe

ZAZEN is a 2 months’ old brainchild inspired from 3 musketeers who have travelled vastly around the globe before decided to bring those gustative memories back to their homeland.

Essentially sets out as a casual Japanese fusion and pork-free with elemental highlights on the wide whisky range, alongside wines and champagne, to go along with the repast.

Reminds me of the citrusy Haig Club cocktail i had during the House Relaunch

EDAMAME SALAD TOPPED WITH SUNFLOWER SEEDS & YAM FLAKES (MYR 11)
A choice of oriental or wafu dressing to go with assorted fresh greens and homemade yam chips.

AUBERGINE & MISO PASTE (MYR 8)
Brilliantly deep fried aubergine that is not a single moment of greasiness and toothsomely served with a special sauce made from the blend of goma and miso. Slurps!

GARLIC FRIED RICE (MYR 6)
More on the light buttery taste, but i don’t mind if it’s more garlicky, hehe.

SHITAKE MUSHROOM SKEWERS (MYR 3)

MEAT SKEWERS (MYR 6 ONWARDS)

BEEF RIBEYE
Australian beef done medium well for that luscious juiciness.

LAMB
The gamey taste got handled pretty well after it’s marinated with miso and honey to tame it, before brushed with teriyaki sauce for some caramel-like taste prior to grill.

BUTTER FISH
Always a huge fan of butter fish, be it served raw- the sashimi style or even lightly grilled this way. It’s still juicy and yummily sweet!

PRAWN
Springy huge prawns brought in from Japan and grilled to perfect delectation.

SPECIAL CHICKEN ROLL
Indeed an ubiquitous roll made inventively with pickled radish stuffed in the middle for that balance of flavor robustness, not too meaty but zesty at the same time, with the sweet-piquant crunchy palate intertwining in between. The midway flavor makes a really nice compromise between the winter-style pickled radish and the summery grilled chicken meat.

SMOKED DUCK ROLL with CHERRY TOMATO, ENOKI & SPRING ONION
You just can’t go wrong with smoked duck meat (=

Oh wait, some surprises from the bar for this impromptu inhouse specially crafted whisky-infused cocktails! Thanks Melv!

COCKTAIL HIDDEN GREEN
Instantly inhouse crafted cocktail using NIKKA COFFEY GRAIN WHISK, green tea, triple sec, vanilla and caramel.

I find myself relishing in it despite my partner is tad reserved and preferred to stick with the conventional whisky- neat Nikka Whisky From The Barrel. I know, sometimes any food or beverage in green can appear bit intimidating though to some, for instance, matcha! Hehe (=

NIKKA WHISKY FROM THE BARREL
Premium Japanese whisky offers the perfect balance of toffee sweetness and rich malty flavour, with a tinge of smoke for complexity and depth. Drink it neat for the bursting burning characteristic!

A distinct smokey scent with creamy caramel aroma rush to my nose almost instantly after the initial brief sniff. It’s rather strong to me and comes with a thicker feel where it hits the tongue with a rounder, silky embrace, but the burn starts within a second or two. However, it's not a strong burn and doesn't burn going down. (Don't hold it in your mouth, though, or that burn will definitely intensify.)

This tipple definitely will have an edge on a cold winter night.

YUZU ICE CREAM (MYR 8)
Tangy homemade yuzu ice cream with lime and lemon to give it that extra zeal, that is refreshingly welcoming especially after a hearty feast!

Perhaps we could also keep the lonely dollop accompanied with some Japanese whisky too.
Now that it reminds me of how I playfully enjoy the mixing palate of my matcha ice cream with sake at Sozo (=

Lunch set is also available from MYR10 onwards- it’s definitely a steal, looking at the bright location of TTDI. Also do check out the Offpeak promo deal by making reservation at the platform that surely will ensure your money is well spent. Interested patrons who wish to throw some events for special occasions could also contact Zazen as they also caters for private function within the cozy confine of their chic interior with warm ambiance.

Menu is still at its introductory stage, so expect more varieties in the pipeline to be added real soon.

Zazen welcomes people from all walks of life, an oasis from a hard day of work, appreciates people whom enjoy good food paired with a variety of whiskies, wines and beers. If you are looking for a place to escape, unwind and ‘medidate’ your cares away- ZAZEN the beckoning enclave.
