ST. BORDEAUX WINE HOUSE @ KEPONG
It wasn’t really a bed of roses during the early stage, as
Kenny recalled. It’s the perseverance and the sheer love for his passion that
pulls him through all this while, besides the constant encouragement by his
lovely wife, the affable Irene.
First started out with a humble shop almost 10 years ago at
Sungai Buloh where products choices revolved more around common diversified
range such as beer and liquour, compared to now where St. Bordeaux Wine House is much more skewered into diversified fine
appreciation of wines, gins, whisky and others.
The second brainchild of Kenny which started operations in
2012, has eventually blossomed after Kenny’s love towards wine become more
refined as time passed. Being a wine lover who has a hankering for vintage
wines from the Old World Wines especially Chilean, Kenny love to explore the
culinary gustation by creating his very own recipes for wine pairing. This
comes ideally whenever there is private occasion to be catered as his ultimate
goal is to create a wine club eventually.
The reason why he enjoys the old world wines is that as it
ages with more vintage, the wines posses more characteristics, taste better and
different in every sips as it breaths at room temperature, without the need of
a decanter seriously.
Apart from that, his yen for aesthetic elements is also well
reflected in the interior design of the outlet where most (if not all) the
entire space is decorated by him, including the craftsmanship and the wooden
embellishments of the outlet. Wow, that is certainly some effort to be applauded.
Now i know why it feels homey the moment I step in the
private lounge, which is opened to walk-in customers upon request, should they
wish to enjoy their selected wines immediately after purchase, where they get
to savour the personal chosen wines with earnest nosh prepared by Kenny.
For instance, take a scoop of his Chilean wine-infused
vanilla ice cream and then enjoy the harmonious delectation on your palate. A
region where its wine often appears rather strong body to me, surprisingly got
delicately tamed with this indulgence! And the curiosity in me prompt me to
enquire Kenny and that’s when I got enllightened that actually, late harvest
wine will have higher sugar content, hence it’s a match made in heaven when
paired with desserts. And I must say I really love it!
Despite the fact that current wine appreciation scene in
Malaysia is yet to matured and is still a growing potential market as compared
to our Western peers in other region, St.
Bordeaux Wine House aims to provide a cozy nook for wine enthusiasts to
unwind and gather around, besides chipping in the concerted effort to propel
more awareness and appreciation towards these dainty delicacy among the local
folks here.
In conjunction with their recent 5th anniversary celebration
of his Aman Puri’s St. Bordeaux Wine
House, both Kenny and Irene had thrown a simple yet jovial buffet party for
those who especially share their passion for good food and good wines!
A huge variety of wines were available on that day for
tasting, in-store purchase, including premium red and white wines from Australia, Chile, France, New Zealand, Spain, sake, sochu and more, besides delish food to go along.
The fair also boasts a wide range of lovely Taiwanese flower wines and fruit wines, such
as the Rose and Roselle variety, alongside
alluring Medinet Grenache, which
captured my taste bud almost immediately with its subtle sweetness!
