OCEAN AND PADDOCK @ ALBANY, PERTH

Awarded the Best Fish and Chips in Western Australia by Western Australian Fisheries Industry Council Awards 2017, Ocean & Paddock certainly lives up to the ante of serving the freshest catch of the day, offering versatile choices of fish types as well seafood as your taste bud desires.

Look at that huge portion! Lovin' it!

Glad that we found this place by pure serendipity.

On how did we find this little lovesome place, we actually stumbled upon it while driving out from our earlier stroll at Middleton Beach after Frenchmans Bay, when dusk finally set in. As if the universe heard our gnawing tummy, we pulled over to check out this restaurant bearing mostly blue theme when we passed by.

It should be just merely passed 6pm when we arrived and the restaurant was still rather empty but most of the table had been reserved, oops! Luckily there was a small table available for us, hehe. However, before we knew in less than 15 minutes or so, throng of customers came in and that moment, we knew we made the right choice of dropping by for a true blue local favourite, yippie!!

The interior was kept minimalist and vibrant at the same time.

Seriously, the choice of fish available here are plentiful and it’s inevitable that you would be spoilt for choices. From Albany Hammerhead Shark, Albany Nannygai, Shark Bay Goldband Snapper, Albany King George Whiting to Albany Harpuka, the menu is just so versatile that can be customized as how you wished them to be cooked and to be served along sides like seafood, mushroom or even burgers! To sum it up, you name it, they got it!

Don’t you find those blackboards of menu varieties impressive? I bet the list will still go on should the board got extended, haha.

Chai Latte (AUD 2.50)

Albany Hammerhead (AUD 12) and Albany Harpuka (AUD 19)
Harpuka is a member of Grouper family, it is usually found in deep offshore reefs around the continental slope across the southern portion of Australia.

Fisherman's Basket (AUD 21)
Fish, Chips, Prawns and Salt and Pepper Squid that were wild caught form South China Sea
Recommended for 2 people or 1 very hungry person- as they put it (=

Pepper Squid are wild caught form South China Sea, battered prawns are Argentinean wild caught red prawn and all combos are served with the daily fresh local Albany Shark but you are most welcome to up-grade to any other fish of your choice too.

You could actually inform them how you wish the food to be cooked, choose from Classic Ocean and Paddock Batter, Gluten Free Quinoa Batter, Grilled with Lemon Pepper or Lemon Pepper Crumbed. Add on AUD 2 for homemade sauce and so, we opted for Garlic Aioli.

I think the combo selection is a good choice, where you get a nice amount of mix-and-match from their signatures. Most importantly, I get to enjoy my all-time favourite fries- local Manjimup Chips!

All in all, we enjoyed our delicious fish affair freshly caught and prepared at this quaint, honest shop with remarkably great customer service from its staff. Kudos and we certainly looking forward to be back again!
