TRAVEL DAY 1 | ALBANY @ PERTH, WEST AUSTRALIA

Almost exactly a year ago, Taurus month was memorably spent in New Zealand. This year makes no difference as 2018 birthday time is also well spent in Western country despite also another ad hoc trip. So where to this time round?

This trip I would deem pretty special as the route chosen was rather less taken by first-time vacationist to Western Australia (WA)- cause we are going to visit an altruistic acquaintance who is a true-blue wine aficionado. By now, you should be able to guess how we were connected in the first place right? So smart of you! Hehe……

Thanks to the buddy who indirectly inspires us to embark on our escapade unparallelly!
Rather than the conventional way of going anti-clockwise from Perth towards the Great Southern Ocean, we decided to work harder and reap the fruits later (for the sake of energy-conserving purpose), so we started off from Perth City after picking up our No Birds rented car upon arrival at the airport during the wee hours the night before.

A warm cup of joe is certainly needed prior departing for the journey from Perth to Albany would takes up to 5 hours, due to the nature of the road that is rather straight which might wear out the visual of the drivers and potentially cause sleepiness. Hence, we heed the advice to have a stop for refreshments at Williams town, before resuming the rest of the travel.  The food is really awesome- if only we could stay bit longer…………

The Woolshed is a great location to stop off as you make your way through the Southern part of the WA.

So how do we come to know about this little lovely place? Thanks to our amigo, Steve, who is currently residing in Denmark whom we would be paying a visit at his splendid vineyard the day after the next day. Since driving in tiredness is certainly a no-no, more so when you are in other country, we adamantly heed Steve’s advice to stop awhile at this recommended café before driving to Albany.

Using GPS, the lovely hostel is easily located and I would say in a strategic way too, where it is in historic part of the town, local eateries as well as architecture like church. All these certainly seems pretty good news for any camera enthusiast, no?

Albany Bayview Lodge YHA is actually a self check in and check out hostel, where guests would receive specific instructions on how to get the room keys few days prior to your arrival. It’s pretty convenient to locate the building, just identify the unit with colorful mural or its beautiful castle-like front house compartment. It actually reminds me of those Disney princess fairy tale stories, hehe.

FRENCHMANS BAY & MIDDLETON BEACH @ ALBANY, PERTH

Location: End of Middleton Road, Albany, Western Australia 6330, Australia

Frenchman Bay is one of the few places in the world where you can relax on a white sandy beach, swim, snorkel, enjoy spectacular ocean views and witness the breathtaking sight of the annual whale migration.

As for Middleton Beach, it was named after Captain Middleton in 1934. Captain Middleton is an ancestor of Kate Middleton now married to Prince William and proud mother of Prince George. He brought Governor James Stirling to Western Australia.  It is the main swimming beach for Albany and offers swimming and recreational beach activities. The waters are protected by King George Sound; the Southern Ocean's waves do not usually reach these sheltered waters.

After a relaxing stroll, what's for dinner then?

Awarded the Best Fish and Chips in Western Australia by Western Australian Fisheries Industry Council Awards 2017, Ocean & Paddock certainly lives up to the ante of serving the freshest catch of the day, offering versatile choices of fish types as well seafood as your taste bud desires.

Glad that we found this place by pure serendipity.
